CRAIG GLAZER SHARES ALL-AMERICAN SEASON'S GREETINGS AND EXPLAINS CHRISTMAS & HANUKKAH COLLABO!!!
An inspired message from our pal Craig offers an important consideration of the "true meaning" of the holiday season for Americans.
Craig Glazer: Why Do American Jews Celebrate Christmas?
Oh boy, Jews in America even buy Christmas trees, decorate and of course get their family gifts that are only open Xmas morning! That's a fact. No not all Jews but too many too count for sure. Is it because they believe in Jesus as the son of God? No. Then why. The Jews in our country believe in America, thats why. Christmas, like Thanksgiving is an American Holiday thats hard to miss right. The great food, the fun, the lights, the tv specials, the families getting together. What happened to Hanukkah? Of course many Jewish families still do the seven nights of that holiday which falls on or near Xmas, yep seven nights of gifts, what a hassle. Isn't one big day BETTER?
As a kid and being a baby boomer, my older relatives would all stop by our house each night of Hanukkah and give us three boys gifts. The gifts were usually somewhat pedestrian, underwear, a sweater, a shirt, maybe a few bucks, no biggies for the most part. As time marched on our families started gathering on Christmas Day for that one big gift and nice meal, instead of all the smaller ones. Yep I sure liked getting a bike instead of a tie, who wouldn't. More important we felt left out of the big day. It's become such an American Holiday with the parades and in KC the Plaza and so much more. How about that great Christmas music played non stop. Hey we got brainwashed. Man were us kids jealous of the Christian kids who got to do the Xmas thing and we didn't. Not only all that but the Christmas vacation from school was such a huge deal, we wanted to belong. You sure can't miss all those advertising minutes on the tube or at stores and online, right.
For many Christians its still a very religious holiday that's true, but for Jews who want to participate its just so American and Jews love America. Hey I married a non Jewish girl years back and we even had a Christmas tree, it looked so nice and did lift your spirits.
Many Christians celebrate Yom Kippur, a high Jewish holiday. Why? That one is more for business reasons. That is the Jewish High Holiday and most Jews make the trip to the synagogue at least on that day. If you live in Hollywood or New York you will notice tons of Christians at the services, why business respect. Yes all the biggies from the Jewish business world are there from film makers to billionaire bankers and more, good idea to rub shoulders and see them afterwords at the lunch and dinner parties.
Ah its All-American. So Jewish, Christian, or whatever you were born to be or became...ENJOY THE CHRISTMAS CHEER AND HOLIDAYS
