CHARTER SCHOOLS SAVE KANSAS CITY???

Here's the thesis of the latest Conservative media blitz that has a bit of data to support along with a great deal of public testimony hoping to distance itself from the clutches of direct KCPS control . . .

Charter Schools Are Keeping Families in Kansas City

Deets:

Homes in Kansas City, Missouri are selling like hotcakes, and a local real estate agent says school choice is driving the trend of middle-class families staying in the city.

Kansas City realtor Mary Hutchison told public radio station KCUR more first-time homebuyers want to raise kids in the city “because there’s more school choice now.” Hutchison says the number of prospective homebuyers in the past couple of years has been so overwhelming that the inventory cannot keep up with the demand.

“Middle-class families are coming back to [Kansas City Public Schools],” KCUR reported in October 2017, noting, “Most of the growth, during the last three years, was in the charter sector.”

  1. The best feature about Charter Schools is that, when they inevitably closed due to poor performance, they can just dump all of those under-educated children right back into the public school system which then gets blamed for the failings of the charter school. Then a new Charter School opens promising a new beginning, and then the school district which had to be educated the poorly educated children then loses kids to yet another charter school and then the process can repeat.

So the cool thing about a charter school is that heads they win, tails the public school loses.

  2. Can you name the schools that have closed and reopened under a new name ?

  3. Open a couple of schools for the children that can read. Put a big fence and housing around and in the other 67 schools for the conditional students to keep them off the streets.

  4. ^^^^Yes quite a good idea chap. Also, take away the internet for everyone over the age of 60. They do nothing but post worthless ideas like yours on it all day. We simply don't ever need to hear from them. Like you, they have nothing to say and offer.

  5. Sure, 10:31, like you have soooo much to add to the discussion.

Actually, there are School Districts in Kansas City that are routinely out-performing the Charter Schools as well, according to the test results released again this year.

A better solution might be the dissolution of the Kansas City Public School system and incorporating the students of both it and the Charter Schools into schools administered by Districts that still are motivated to, and know how to educate, rather than just spend tax money or turn a profit by any means necessary.

May I add my fervent wish that you never have to deal with reaching the age of 60! Or for that matter 50, or 40, 0r...

  7. If charter schools are performing so poorly why are people moving into the KC District and sending their kids to charter schools? Are all these parents stupid or misguided? More likely the teachers union is upset.

  12. Kansas City schools suck. The students that attend them are mostly illiterate. It’s been like that for quite a while and will continue indefinitely. No amount of money or policies will change that.
