TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! DICK WILSON OUT AT KCMO 94.9 FM AS STATION STARTS CHRISTMAS MUSIC MARATHON!!!

Our blog community mentioned this in the comments on Friday when we talked about Becka & Knapp getting the axe . . .

Reader quote it up nicely:

"Merry Christmas, you're fired? As Cumulus flipped KCMO-FM to its Christmas music format, it looks like the station has let go longtime morning host Dick Wilson. Wilson has been a fixture in the Kansas City market since the 1970s. Wilson had been at 94.9 since the 1980s, when it was a CHR station "Power 95."

And so, the Cumulus move toward Chapter 11 continues and clearly has consequences for the local market.

  4. Tune into the stations left on the dial below 92 mhz. Public radio, KC is blessed with four excellent stations in that part of the dial. No commercials and the signal is uncompressed so it sounds better.

  5. Dick was there so long, he played some of those oldies when it was a top 40 station.

  6. Geeze Dick must be 70-75 by now.

  7. Did Christa Dubill at KSHB41 get fired or just move to late night? She's been gone all November from her early evening slot.

  8. Or did Dick get caught groping? Sure not been much said on why he is gone. In fact nothing much has been said.

  10. I stopped listening to Dick's morning show when he added squeaky, perky Renee. Ugh. She sounds like she should be on one of those ladies' talk shows - squeak..... Can't stand her and Dick always sounds like he's sleepwalking through his morning.

  11. Dude is gotta be retirement age and then some and pulling down a ridiculous salary. I'm sure he got a decent package....hard to feel sorry for him.

5:27 is right on. 90.9 The Bridge is excellent.

  13. Radio in the USA went to shit decades ago. So now it ranks right up there with newspapers in terms of potential longevity. There is no personality, no entertainment, mostly talking heads that are full of shit and no real identity. The numbers of background radio listeners has diminished and with shit head organizations like ASCAP running around strong arming small business owners shops don't even play the radio anymore. Its dead

  14. Hey 11:22 Jay Cooper never had respect of his female coworkers Jay had no respect for the listeners he only had respect for$$$$.. so why should we give a person's respect in death when they gave no respect to anyone and their living?

  15. I’m sure Dick is a great guy, even a legend in KC, but that toupee needs to go. :(

  16. Sad that Dick is gone. He is/was a legend in KC radio. Agree with previous comments regarding Renee. She is so annoying I cannot stand to listen to her. Hope Cumulus gives her walking papers soon!

  17. Dick is a legend and anybody too young to remember early Kansas City radio is missing something. He should be fine he still has his other ventures.

  18. I am sorry to hear of anyone being fired. Especially at Christmas. Heartless. I have listened to Dick Wilson for years and will miss his voice. What this station needs to do is stop the endless Christmas music loop. Mix it up! Some Christmas some not. Take a clue from 102.7..great station!

  19. Stopped listening once Kelly Urich got on there, now there is a talking head...yak, yak, yak. Couldn't stand him on Mix either. At least with Dick & Renee they didn't talk all morning.

Going to get an ipod adaptor and listen to my iTunes from now on.

Hope to hear you again on the dial Dick, you were a friendly voice with out all the hype.

  20. Miss Dick so much. Radio listening will never be the same. God bless you, man! Hope to see/hear you back again some time somewhere (tv, radio, special events, etc.). Still missing "Beatles for Breakfast". To me you are still the best!!!!

  21. Know when I realized Dick and his ancient format were gone? When, after not listening to 94.9 for months due to the songs being boring and anything post 1979 seemingly generally off limits, I put it on last week and... wow... liked the songs and the format. I travel the country a ton and always tune in the local oldies stations. Bar none, 94.9 under Dick’s influence was The Worst. Boring and stale, with songs the playlist so set in stone his oldies were already old early in his career. Now 94.9 has the punch and energy of other stations around the nation. Congrats on your long career, Dick, and I wish you well. I’m just glad I can wnjou listening to oldies over the airwaves (vs online) in the KC area again!!
