TKC Reader Push Back: Homeless Veterans Still Camp In South Kansas City

Important testimony and citizen media reporting as officials claim to have ended homelessness among veterans . . .

Here's the word . . .

Here is a pic of a homeless camp of vets in Scott Taylor's district.

Out of site, out of mind.

Police tell me these are the same vets The Coalition "helped" that used to be in Sunnyside Park in Waldo. They only assumed they "helped" because the no longer hung around Sunnyside Park. But they just moved into wooded areas along the Trolley Trail.

Trolley Track Trail south of 85th St and about Cherry St. Land Bank property (city/county - they know about it)

  1. Why can't these vets get a job? Price Chopper, Home Depot, QuikTrip, Aldi's, Walmart these are some of the company's that are hiring.

  2. How do we know they're Vets?

  3. My family worked at The Hatchery, for school we had to write a story that had a moral to the story. I told the story how my dad would bring eggs home in several baskets. The moral to the story is "don't put all your eggs in one basket". The neighborhood kid's dad brought worked at The Hatchery and brought home eggs and put them under a light. The moral of the story is "don't count your chickens before they hatch". Another kid named Dirty Johnny said his uncle was in Vietnam and on disability, carried pistols, shotguns and rifles with him on patrol. One day his uncle came onto a village and shot all the men, unfortunately all the men and the children next. Afterward he felt a warm feeling in his legs, reached down and felt ashamed because he had pissed his pants. While he had his had on his crotch he ejaculated and felt proud. The moral of the story is, "aren't you glad he didn't work in The Hatchery!"

  7. Why they don't work? Get serious. AGE Discrimination is a major factor. If you are over 50, and apply for any kind of a job whatsoever, you are invisible.

  8. Secondly, many of the low-end jobs you mention have special HIRING-PROGRAMS set up with the City and the County where they hire "recovering criminals", and people on other programs. They get big breaks on the cost of pay. It is about MONEY. So, why don't you look into things before you run off at the mouth?

  9. Out of site? That site looks pretty darn good!

  10. I'd rather have veterans living in the woods than Swope Park crime in my neighborhood.

  11. The vets can not get a job or socialize normally for a myriad of reasons, many being mental health issues. For those who have never been in a war zone you have no idea the toll of waking everyday wondering if it could be your last. The never ending level of intensity related to live action in a conflict is impossible to describe. In Viet Namn soldiers did a tour and got a break. Since Rumsfeld they redeploy these soldiers into this hell over and over and over until many are fucking broken. In America we love to go to war, but God Damn sure turn chicken shit when it is time to pay the cost of it. The VA is pretty much worthless when it comes to helping these folks even though it has been their mandate for quite a while now..
