Is America's Public Education System Broken by Design?

Founder's Note: Today we once again turn to our good friend and fellow Liberty seeker Joey. He's a good man to know. For more of his contributions, check out his author page in the Manward archives here. You don't often hear folks say America's public education system is a success.

  1. This was great. It never really occurred to me, but the author's right and it fits perfectly with KC Public Schools. And, of course, there are some exceptions, but for the most part public schools suck. And, really, how could something continue to suck as bad as public schools do in most of the large cities IF it wasn't on purpose...

Changing one's point of view a little, and your realize it's all been a total scam... a jobs program (LOL)... but all it is is a large warehousing of kids until they can hit the minimum wage lines....

    Great post Tony..

  2. I think it is now being made worse at the college level by burdening kids with unreasonable amounts of student loan debt. Kids are basically indentured servants. You know who makes the best employees? Broke employees. People who stand on the precipice at all times. People terrified to lose their job because they know they are fucked financially if they do. It is no accident student loan debt is the only debt not bankruptable. It is because the American corporation and our government have orchestrated a way to assure themselves they have a workforce that has a significant percentage that isn't upwardly mobile, will keep their mouths shut and do their job no matter how much they hate it. The repercussions of this will be enormous in the future. I envision a day maybe 30 years from now when home values plummet. The Boomers will be dead, my generation already have our houses, and millenials will still be paying off student loans, not buying big ticket items like houses and cars, you know, things that make the economy go round. I see a glut of unsold homes sitting on the market with a lot fewer buyers. Wages have been stagnant since the early 70s and millenials are going to default on student loans, not too mention Wall Street haven't changed any of their nefarious behavior from 2008. Just my opinion but I see a bad shitstorm on the horizon.

  3. KCSD would not be considered such a bad school district if it had better students.

  4. @9:37 - the primary driver for higher levels of student debt: ANYBODY can get a student loan for ANY major. You have academically mediocre kids, getting degrees in non-marketable, pseudo majors. Then they wonder why they have menial jobs and are saddled with enormous levels of student debt.

  5. KC must surely be the international headquarters for deep thinking. Here you have a pack of suckers that has pumped billions of dollars into a school system that isn't really qualified to educate. Every year we have a plan to bring us out of the dark ages, but it will require increases in property tax and more money. This pattern has been going on for at least 35 years and yet not a single citizen footing the bill has decided enough is enough. That in itself should represent a huge fail concerning the educational and intelligence level exhibited by the natives of Kansas City.

  6. The single most important element of a successful student is the parents. If the parents don't care about education, the kid won't, either. This is often overlooked in discussing the failure (or success) of public schools.

  7. Public schools HAVE to take everyone, while Charter and other schools can dump any low-achieving and misbehaving students back into the Public School system anytime they wish.

If this blog would let ME pick and choose who is allowed to post to it in that way, I could demonstrate that everyone posting on this blog has a high level of intelligence.

BUT, things being as they are...

  8. ^^^ not true. Stop repeating urban legends.

  9. @11:41 - you're right. That's why most of the feral criminals we see roaming our streets come from a single mother who doesn't care about their kid or their education.
