TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! DESPERATE AND DISABLED PANHANDLERS HASSLED AWAY FROM KANSAS CITY PUBLIC STREETS AHEAD OF COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA LIGHTING CEREMONY 2017!!!
As local media hibernates for the holidays and works to broadcast only the safest and lamest sentimental local stories . . . Our TKC blog community is kicking into overdrive despite low cash reserves.
To wit . . .
THIS TKC HOBO READER E-MAIL REPORTS CRUELTY TO CLEAR STREETS FOR THE KANSAS CITY COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA LIGHTING CEREMONY!!!
Here's the word that CONTRADICTS KANSAS CITY FAKE NEWS ABOUT LOCAL THANKSGIVING GENEROSITY . . . Full disclosure: This e-mail is a composite of two separate notes sent in from a panhandler whom I've given a couple of bucks to in the past and who remains an active reader of the blog . . . And has 1st hand knowledge which rejects recent local claims that homelessness for veterans has been eradicated.
Tony, I am writing you from the library to let you know that I have been chased away from the Plaza today because they don't seem to want panhandlers near the place for the lighting ceremony tomorrow.
There were more people on the Plaza today and more opportunities for me to earn money but I was not allowed to sit or even rest for a moment without getting hollered at.
I am physically disabled and unemployable. You all don't realize that for those, who are physically disabled, panhandling is the ONLY SOURCE OF INCOME that the physically disabled have going for them, so they can financially survive.
I am horrified, and even saddened, that there are so many people out there, who ARE capable of finding and getting work; BUT, who are also, begging out on the street, and do drugs and alcohol. They are in competition against me for the same, dollar bill, which I need MORE than they do. Yet, I am not able to physically work. I do NOT do alcohol, drugs, sex, etc., yet I have to pay my debts and bills, and financially provide for myself.
No one wants to hire me; because, I am physically disabled. Panhandling has been a real hand up for me, and NOT a hand out. So, if you happen to see a one armed woman, begging for money on the street, please DO NOT yell at me to get a job. It is NOT my fault, that employers want to grossly discriminate against me . . .
Being chased away from the Plaza today was another way that the rights over everyone are in jeopardy. If they can close down public streets to the disabled and to panhandlers then more restrictions for others are on the way . . .
And so we put the question to our reader community . . .
IS IT RIGHT TO HASSLE AND HUSTLE AWAY PANHANDLERS AWAY FROM KANSAS CITY PUBLIC STREETS IN THE COUNTRY CLUB ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT BEFORE THE THANKSGIVING PLAZA LIGHTING CEREMONY 2017?!?!
Like it or not, this story has implications for the future of street privatization under consideration first in Westport and then for the rest of KC.
Either way this might be a futile goal given that two panhandlers replace every one that's pushed out as the local homeless and poverty crisis worsens.
You decide . . .
