NEW KANSAS CITY TOP COP DISAVOWS AIM4PEACE: FUNDING CUT NEXT???

A recent radio conversation about "community policing" offers another perspective on City Hall funded anti-crime efforts and possibly an indication that support for a group which claims to prevent violence is fading . . . To be fair, there's resistance to this strategy from an array of community leaders AND the interview diss from the newly appointed crime-fighter has already resulted in online criticism. Checkit:

KCPD Chief Rick Smith 'Knows Nothing' About Violence Prevention Group Aim4Peace

When it comes to violence in Kansas City, Missouri, Police Chief Rick Smith says that, more often than not, someone knows what's going on before it ever happens. To that end, the KCPD recently announced a substantial increase in rewards for homicide tips, from $2,000 to $5,000.

  1. Wow! That was a slap down if I ever heard one. Sounds like he does know about them and that they are a grifter slush fund. I guess if he didn't have anything nice to say, he wasn't going to say anything at all.

  2. Ending a worthless program from an academic in, of all places, Chicago, after who knows how many years and millions of dollars?
    Wow! Real oversight and accountability.
Now let's see what actually happens when the usual suspects weigh in at city hall.
Aim4Peace should just be the first of most of these "anti-crime" nonprofit gravy trains.
In fact, with 130 homicides so far this year, EVERY program that's been in place and receives any taxpayer money should be carefully scrutinized.
The county could start with COMBAT.

  3. Programs such as Aim4Peace and Combat should only be allowed 5 years at most to prove they are working on reducing crime and killings. If not, then all funding from the taxpayers should be cut and they can then try and get private donations which I doubt they get much of.

Then maybe it should be law somewhere that outfits like these can only get funds that match dollar for dollar what the can raise in donations.

  4. Hey rick, they’re at 4900 scope pkwy on the second floor, don’t come before noon because they don’t show up till then.

  5. Let's have someone visit all the eighty agencies that receive Combat funds of $70,000,000 per year and audit their results. I'll bet you won't be able to locate some of them. How many more officers would that $70,000,000 a year put on the street?

  6. And rick, do be careful, the blue elevator works part of the time and the other two have been broke down for two months and Troy won’t let them be repaired. You should see the people in wheelchairs that need to get to the second or fourth floor because that city dept won’t return their phone calls, those poor people just give up and go to court instead

  8. Homicide tips at $5,000? If every homicide resulted in a tip payout that would only be about $650,000. That's a rounding error in the city's budget. Yet a safe city would do more for progress than a new airports, new hotels, conventions and economic development schemes.
