LOCAL SOCIAL MEDIA RIPS KKFI STORY ALLEGING KCPD CRACKDOWN ON RECORDING OFFICERS

Push back on this story is coming by way of FB, Twitter et. al . . . Locals don't seem to want to believe the Midtown Kansas City encounter that ended badly for an impromptu activist . . .

Fact is . . .

The thin blue line betwixt the public's right to record vs. impeding officers in the performance of their jobs is often a matter of discretion. This debate goes back to the efforts of KC Cop Block that started an effort to record police a few years ago.

Here's the story for those who haven't seen it already . . . Most of the reaction hinges on wanting to hear the KCPD side of the tale as well.

KKFI: Filming The KCPD Can Get You Hurt

Deets . . .

"Filming the police is legal, but that doesn’t protect you from abuse and arrest if you try. Today’s guest, JJ was trying to help a lost girl at the Quik-Trip on Main find her parents when she was interrupted by an off duty KCPD officer. The officer didn’t seem to be helping the girl so JJ decided to film his badge number with her phone. The officer told her to stop filming and then she ended up on the concrete arrested for obstruction and trespassing."

You decide . . .

How can you arrest someone for trespassing when the owner hasn't pressed charges?

"Wanting to hear the KCPD's side of the tale, as well."

Indeed. Sounds like just a bully with a badge & a gun.

Why did he feel the need to assault the citizen?

    For trespassing? Obstruction? Of what??

  2. One glaring issue. If the police was off duty where was he wearing a badge? Second maybe the police thought the dude was a pedo and filming for his spank bank.

    1. “Off Duty Employment” is where officers are hired to work security as police officers from a private business or an event. Just like you see officers working Power and Light, The Cheifs, etc. They are working extra jobs outside of their normal duty and are contracted to work for a business or group.

My only question is whether this person filed a complaint with the Office of Community Complaints, or is just working the social media angle. None of us were there so unless there’s a complaint made into misconduct, it’s not even worth discussing and is just he said she said.

  6. Where's the video? It should be prominently displayed on KKFI's page, but its not. That make me immediately think the activist was getting way out of control. There are a number of factors that could have led to obstruction. Was activist filming the child as well? That is not legal. Was the officer working for QT? If so, they are given latitude in judgement of who should be on premises or not. Isn't it interesting that these activists CONSTANTLY have negative interactions with KCPD, yet armed to the teeth "Constitutional" activists NEVER have these negative interactions? Hmm, mutual respect perhaps? Something that does not even exist in the lexicon of prog SJW types.

I'm all for holding LEOs to a MUCH higher standard, and will jump on bad behavior in an instant. But, I think we'll find this doesn't meet any standard of poor behavior.

  7. Next time the local press is kissing the new chief's ass maybe they might ask his policy on police being videotaped and exactly what constitutes trespassing and obstruction.

  8. Why does a loser like Byron who could be working is allowed to sit on his ass collecting our hard earned tax dollars?

Besides he live in that loser state of Vagina so why should he care what any local cop does?

The Funkhousers had a huge Thanksgiving Family get together, but Byron the black sheep shagger of the family wasn't invited.

  9. KCPD loves it in the ass.

  10. The cop provoked a confrontation. KCPD cannot tell you to stop taking video. They cannot pull your hair when your hand cuffed in leg irons. This us classic case of multiple abuse of authority.

  11. They can't solve a homicide so they abuse everyone else for shitz and grinz.
