Kansas City Renter Rights Against Slumlords OR Property Owner Crackdown???

We've been talking about this effort and the metro local housing campaign for months and now the newspaper catches up with an article they've been saving for the better part of a year . . . Activists hope to lift KC rental inspection program onto April ballot

  3. Never fly!

The Black Churches are the largest group of Slum Landlords in the City, and each one of them has a "Rent-A-Mob" on call.

This proposal will be shot down just like the one that was tried ten or eleven years ago. Being forced to fix up the crappy houses they own would mean taking some of "God's Money" that they are taking such good care of and wasting it on these houses.

Now, if the City wants to fix up these hovels and bring them up to some minimum level of habitability, that's a different story!

  4. Something tells me it might turn out to be a crackdown on white landlords only.

  5. The landlords are fretting over paying the inspection fee, as if that will run them out of business and prevent them from providing a service to all dem poor people who need substandard housing. One landlord actually said that's what he was doing - operating some kind of crazy charity with his crap houses.

  6. So the landlords pass the cost to the renters while the city pockets the cash and acts like KC cares about its boons.
