KANSAS CITY ELECTION DAY TRANSIT DOUBLE TAKE: 8,225 FEWER STREETCAR RIDERS IN OCT. 2017 AS TOY TRAIN RIDERSHIP TRENDS DOWNWARD!!!

Amid today's airport vote, it's important to fact check another mode of Kansas City transit.

Accordingly . . .

RIDERSHIP NUMBERS FOR THE EMBATTLED KANSAS CITY STREETCAR CONTINUE TRENDING DOWNWARD AS LOCAL RAIL ENTHUSIASM FADES!!!

Remember that in Sept. there was a 13% drop-off in the numbers.

KC Streetcar Authority proudly proclaimed Total Ridership for October 2016 @ 166,412

And after just a bit of nagging, credit to the The KC Streetcar Authority for releasing the latest numbers just a few moments ago . . .

Thousands of fewer riders this month (8225 less to be exact) compared to last year - The KC Streetcar Authority reports a 5% decline continuing the trend downward with the steep Winter plunge ahead.

Feel free to interpret these numbers but there's NO DENYING the continued decline in streetcar ridership this year over last. While politicos continually tout historic changes for their development schemes, the streetcar has offered not only a great deal of hype and celebration but also an inevitable decline in interest as a fickle public always demands a new toy.

You decide . . .

  1. So, you're telling me that a new airport isn't going to usher in an era of unprecedented prosperity for Kansas City?

    The HELL you say.

    1. They need the extension to the Plaza and UMKC, without this project is done. The streetcar is great, it just doesn't go anywhere people really want to go. Taking it to the plaza would be a game changer even if that means putting even more security on it.

    2. If it goes to the Plaza, they're going to have to charge a fare. Anything else and the Main St. bums will just ride it all day and night.

  2. I guess those 25 million tourists every year are taking an Uber?

At least you can hang your clothes to dry on a Bowflex.

  6. The final destination for the train should be straight up Sly’s big fat ass.

  7. So what are the expenses per month for the streetcar ? Divide that by the 8,000 riders and see what you get but you should divide it by 4,000 [ you get on and you make your return trip . }

  8. Tourism could be down as well. Kansas City has a public relations problem. To much negative publicity on the crime. We are on the national news a couple times a month. So would you travel to k.c.And walk around and wait for a street car.And you listen to the reports, you think a bunch of hula gins are running around.

  9. Once Worlds of Fun closes why would anyone wanna visit here. Unless of course they come to see fat as in his clown suits.

  10. If they charged $.50 to ride it, all the black people would stop riding it.

  11. @2:11 - NO THANK YOU! Not willing to bet another 200 million on this.

  12. 2:12, how would they be able to eject passengers who board without paying the fare? I think it's a hopeless cause. NYC MTA has plenty of turnstile jumpers, and we don;t even have turnstiles.

  13. The White people in Kansas City love the streetcar. Most never ride it. But they love it. In the meantime, people who like mass transit ride the bus.

  16. Well since the main st Max bus straightened out it route from crown center to the river market, it's become way faster than the toy box train. So there's no more need to transfer from bus to toy.
