Jackson County Jail Guard Savagely Attacked By Inmate & Fights For Life On Thanksgiving

The ongoing Courthouse human rights crisis continues this Thanksgiving and presents a continuing clear & present danger to guards and other inmates.

This is just the latest in a litany of jail trouble amid an FBI raid earlier this year along with millions in an upcoming bond issue directed toward repairing the damage.

In response to the assault, Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. has issued the following statement:

“Our corrections officers are dedicated, hard-working professionals, who have the difficult job of ensuring the safety and welfare of inmates. They are an important component of our criminal justice system. I admire the work they do to keep our community safe and they deserve to be treated with respect. As I’ve stated numerous times, the safety and security of our corrections officers will always be of utmost importance.

My administration and I take these assaults very seriously. Such violent behavior by inmates toward our corrections officers will not be tolerated. It is our hope that the person responsible for this assault will be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the corrections officer who was injured in this assault. We are fully committed to supporting the corrections officer and his family throughout this difficult process.”

Here's the roundup . . .

Fox4: A Jackson County correctional officer is fighting for his life after a vicious attack inside the jail late Wednesday night.

KMBC: Police say videotape of the assault shows the suspect beating the guard for eight minutes, using several items including a plastic cone. Investigators say the guard was unconscious for part of the attack.

KCUR: The suspect was arrested in April by Kansas City police and charged with operating a vehicle in a careless manner and resisting arrest, according to online court records.

  1. Jean Petersucker Baker says change is needed? For once, she is correct. The biggest change is, she needs to get the fuck out of the prosecutors office. She is the weakest prosecutor ever. Jean Petersucker is a weak-dick.

  2. I hope jean opts out of the task force. It would be a shame if she went along with this publicity stunt.

  3. KCPD better wake up before they are sued! KCPD, and everyone else for that matter, knows the JACO Jail is a disaster and is not safe both for guards and inmates alike.

KCPD is going to end up arresting someone for something relatively minor, say shoplifting or something, who will not bond out and be transferred down to JACO where he or she will end up being assaulted by another inmate.

I think there would be a pretty good gross negligence claim against both the county and KCPD/KCMO.

  7. I hate to think how little those guards make to supervise those chimps. What, $30,000 a year? They should lock the doors and throw the chimps weapons then watch them kill each other.

  8. 8 FUCKING MINUTES THIS ASSAULT WENT ON!!!! How the hell is that possible? And how much shit has to happen before the Corrections Director gets canned? Legislators need to meet in emergency session and move Corrections out from under the county executive and make it the sheriff's responsibility. Shit like this happens and all Frank can do is release crap statements written by his PR staff? FIRE FRANK TOO!!!!!

  9. I hope this guard sues the holy hell out of Jackson County and Frank White personally. Just show videos of Frank at the County Legislative meetings shaking his head when the Legislators tell him the jail is in crisis or that someone is going to get killed in there if he doesn't step up and do something.

How many times has he been asked to address this crisis and just denied it's a crisis?

Find that clip when he called one woman's rape in that jail "old news," even though inmates keep somehow getting out of their cells to commit more assaults.

Show this past week's meeting when the Legislators called Frank's task force bullshit and warned that he was wasting time and that action needed to be taken before someone else got hurt or killed in that jail. Of course, Frank was a no show at that meeeting.

Maybe someone thought it would be cute to name an old baseball player county executive. Instead, it has been pretty ugly.

  10. What is wrong with this picture is why is the inmate still taking up good air? Are the inmates running the jail here?

  11. "Dunlap was arrested in April by Kansas City police and charged with operating a vehicle in a careless manner and resisting arrest, according to online court records." according to article.
If Mr white wants protection for his staff, he & others may also want to consider WTF u hold folks in jail for 7 months for a non violent crime and transform them into lifetime violent criminal. Stop with ur fck'd up armchair solutions that just make things more fckd up.

  12. not to worry frank will appoint a task force to study this and report back in six or eight weeks

  13. can anyone recommend a location for a new jail? Then is that spot big enuf for a new baseball stadium? Isn't that a proposal already and why would frank not be teaming on that. Hell, K opened in 1973, as ripe as the airport on US Timeline Administration, Standards, & Associates, LLC.

  14. 10:10 since when is resisting arrest a nonviolent crime? it's possible it was resist by fleeing, but unless he was on foot, then it was violent and dangerous. on the other hand it's very possible he resisted by use of force and violence.

  18. Idiot was driving erratically then ran from the popo and caused a wreck and had a suspended drivers license on top of all that which also means he didn’t have insurance, but he’s black and is blind in one eye and Whitney “douchebag” Terrell the new plaza sjw will probably cry foul and have a protest that if it wasn’t for jc Nichols eighty years ago this would never have happened

  19. 8 minutes before any assistance arrived? That is incredible and criminal. The administrators of this jail need to be terminated. If I were employed as a guard there my last working day would have been yesterday.
