ReplyDeleteBlogging is where the big money is
ReplyDeleteLMAO
Like all geezers, that industry will pass.
ReplyDeleteit's not sustainable and is going down.
ReplyDeletewhy, then, are the journalists who are still there staying?
Because nobody else wants them?
Deleteidea: the high school journalism teachers of the metro area collaborate to put out a daily newspaper written by their students.
ReplyDeletethey wouldn't yet have subject expertise, so they'd have to just write the essentials.
still, that'd be better than reporting with skewed and deformed versions of events where subject expertise doesn't help convey the truth.
there would be no one-sided editorials and each editorial wouldcrequire both a pro and a con to be printed alongside.
the students would work for free. the costs of publishing would be by advertisers and foundation sponsors. the papers would be dustributed free in restaurants, grocery stores, and, yes, schools.
high school students would be taught to read newspapers again.
the format would maybe 20 tabloid pages to keep it simple.
What's the Star?
ReplyDeleteThe real story is how the hell an archaic beached whale like teh Star is still hanging on.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest slap in the face for those remaining with the Falling Star will come when they officially declare bankruptcy and the judge allows them to discharge their pension liabilities to retirees and those who were still yet to draw them.
ReplyDeleteThe last several years McClatchy has been substituting overvalued real estate assets, etc., in lieu of cash payments to employee pension funds. Just review the documents.
Wow last month's news today! Thanks dude!
ReplyDeleteLike Geezer Hater 8:03, they'll just whine for a bailout.
ReplyDeleteEveryone one is laid off and outsourced. Stock holders are parasites.
ReplyDelete^^^ says the SJW who buys Chinese shit at WalMart.
ReplyDeleteMcClatchy is surprising small: market cap of $76 million, 29 newspapers with a combined weekly circluation of 1.6 million.
ReplyDeleteThey've sold off a lot of newspapers.
Maybe a local millionaire should buy the Star.....?
Steve Rose? Crosby Kemper? Who else?
sinquefield
ReplyDeleteI always wonder why the Star doesn't report McClatchy trouble. Some of the other publications do.
ReplyDeleteThe Star is a very small market "newspaper" with an out-of-town owner whose only interest in the paper is that it keeps its line item of the monthly McClatchey financial report in black ink.
ReplyDeleteYou can sell off assets and fire experienced reporters only so long to keep the lights on.
And when the Star line item turns red, it will be gone.
I thought about going into the newspaper business but I have way too much integrity and ethics so I work in the payday loan business
ReplyDeleteTime for Sly to cut them another check?
ReplyDeleteMaube this is the charity that will receive the Amazon junk.
It’s the editorial board- so divisive in a time it can’t afford to be.
ReplyDeleteMediocrity is the biggest sin with the likes of “me too” writers.
Let’s see a break down by age of subscribers on what they pay to subscribe- Do old people pay more and why?
Attorney Generals should be on this and if older people pay more for the paper- higher ups should lose jobs.
