TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY TV LEGEND FRED BROSKI AUTOBIOGRAPHY OFFERS EPIC INSIGHT INTO EVOLVING LOCAL MEDIA!!!

As Kansas City recovers from severe weather tonight, we take a moment to look back at one of the most influential people to shape the local media.

As a local TV legend, Fred Broski brought down home class and charm to millions of views over the years . . . But just as importantly, he fostered a real connection to the community.

He grew up on the East Side and worked his way up the local news system to become one of the most recognizable personalities in Kansas City.

He STILL gets stopped by strangers to this day asking about his life and times in the TV game as he continues to entertain fans of his work.

Mr. Broski recently penned a book on the subject of his life in local broadcasting and the work is getting rave reviews:

Moreover . . .

This isn't a spoiler but after reading the book what's most impressive is a simple lesson: Mr. Broski worked tirelessly throughout his career and one of his keys to success was staying humble and never letting local celebrity go to his head.

Like it or not, the current TV news game is about egos and transient mini-celebs hoping to become famous on a national level. Most of them don't care about the towns on which they report, never stay long and don't understand the people and communities served by local news outlets.

Again, and to this day, Fred Broski remains someone who is deeply connected to the people of Kansas City.

His book offers an amazing glimpse of the media game in KCMO and for those who read very closely, there are so many AMAZING personal and professional stories that define the people and players who influence and still work behind the scenes to this day.

And on this still rainy night, we dedicate our playlist to one of the all-time class-acts in Kansas City Television, Fred Broski:

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night . . .

  1. Fred is an ABSOLUTE CLASS ACT.

Wish more local news people currently working in the industry knew about him and some of his great work. Glad to know that he's out there and still doing well.

    1. back when the news still cared about KC and didn't try to create panic during every storm. The golden age of Kansas City television.

  2. The first two posters have nailed it.

Unfortunately, those days are gone... most likely forever.

The Media is now totally political.

  3. I once went up to Ak-Sar-Ben with friends and met Fred Broski there. We had a common acquaintance that was obsessed with the ponies. Fred couldn’t have been nicer, but after always seeing him in a suit on tv, he looked so different in shorts and a T-shirt, chomping on a cigar.

  4. And to think not all that long ago we had Fred brosky, today, a 50 something year old Midget Man Child who can't even read a teleprompter. Man the news has come a long way, down the shitter.

  5. Fred Broski...the "Polish Prince"....quite the gentleman...Fred would park his black Caddy across from the fire station, #2's Headquarters at TV9KMBC, when I was a young "sub firefighter" KCFD...always a smile and good spirits...

  7. I remember as a kid seeing Fred Broski and a group of his pals playing pool at the Gold Buffett in NKC. He usually had a cigar in his mouth but he was nice to everyone and polite.

I loved watching him on TV as well and the other weather guy Dan Henry, he was cool also. those were the good 'ol days.

  8. I'm going to have to buy that book I went to his website it doesn't look like he's going to any book signings. I understand that though he's got to be old and just not up to doing things like that.

  10. Sad but oh so true:
"Like it or not, the current TV news game is about egos and transient mini-celebs hoping to become famous on a national level. Most of them don't care about the towns on which they report, never stay long and don't understand the people and communities served by local news outlet"

  11. Isn't it amusing that all the Weather "Babble Heads" use the same sources, but each one of them claims to be the "Most Accurate"?

Maybe they should try predicting Yesterday's Weather, they might be able to reach an accuracy level exceeding 60% that way.

    Miss you, Mr. Broski!

  12. Few folks in KC realize how well known Fred was nationally through his work in advertising and epic numbers of national TV spots. In his prime he was one of the go to men when you wanted top notch talent for a marketing project.

  13. We went with Dad on Bowling For Dollars. We were treated so nice and meeting Fred in person was a treat. Dad got a spare and then a strike... No jackpot, but we felt as though we won. What a class act and his book ought to be required reading for all media school students.
Great story... great career... Great person!
