TKC QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE ODDS THAT KANSAS CITY WINS AMAZON HQ2 BID AGAINST HUNDREDS OF COMPETITORS???

Kansas City hand delivered a mostly secret proposal to Amazon as part of its publicity blitz to win jobs that could be worth 5-billion to one, somewhat lucky U.S. local economy.

The world's greatest purveyor of cheap Chinese junk that has destroyed retail biz now has nearly every major American city on its knees in order to request more cash.

And so . . .

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF KANSAS CITY'S ODDS AT LANDING AMAZON HQ2???

To be fair, a controversial and local bid made a lot of noise and was derided as "desperate" by most tech reporters. Still, any publicity helped to increase this town's profile against Amazon's one-sided "late capitalism" ambitions.

Check the odds and tell us what you think . . .

  1. Man with hand in pocket feel cocky all day.

Also, I never said all that other shit.

  2. KC has zero chance. No public transportation from airport to downtown, very little elsewhere. No big concentration of tech talent. Our "international" airport really isn't. And we're not hip or trendy.

  3. ^^^ Excellent point!

I'd give us 1 in 175 - And those odds suck.

  4. 9 quintillion to 1

  7. Thanks for the contribution 8:02.

It's great that you took a break from taking pictures of your dick with your cell phone and sending them to yourself to post that brilliant comment.

Everything on this blog does not have to be about Chuck, unless you are so consumed with everything he writes, that you can't think about anything else.

    Oh..., that's right...

  10. KCMO had ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE of landing Amazon's HQ2, as they didn't fulfill the basic prerequisites spelled out in the Amazon solicitation.

If a tech company gives you 7-8 requirements which must be fulfilled before your bid will be considered, and you don't/can't meet those requirements, why are you submitting a bid?

KCMO leadership is using this HQ2 bid process to sell voters a new KCI and promote this silly notion of KCMO becoming a "world-class" city.

  12. KC should have taken the tens of thousands it cost to do the bid and went to the casino. The odds would have been better.

  14. When Wikileaks or the Russians or the Chinese finally hack into the Amazon Giveaway Sweepstakes Proposals, and RELEASE IT, it will be far worse than if every elected official in 238 cities was outed on the Ashley Madison cheating website.

KCMO has no chance, but here is the real risk/opportunity--
Hackers get hold of the 238 proposals and SELL that info--

Because it's golden to know exactly what whores these 238 cities are.
What elected officials, working in kahootz with developers, eg Whitney Kerr and so many others, were willing to GIVE AWAY BY TAKING FROM TAXPAYERS!

Every corporation looking for future giveaways would LOVE to know what's available if they just whine and overpromise, like Amazon did, (even tho Amazon did it best.)

In the film "INDECENT PROPOSAL" with Robert Redford and Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson 9before he got so creepy) about whether she was for sale sexually, he said something like, "We've already established that everyone is for sale. Now it's just a matter of the price."

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HumfQ0xklFU

Amazon scored free news coverage in 238 cities or more. Shame on them and shame on the cities for falling for this stunt.

Amazon pretty much knew where they wanted to go. So Jeff Bezos, for sport, like Robert Redford, toyed with America. Shame on us for playing the game. And Sly James better pray his proposal never sees the light of day. PS--some staffer after leaving their post--will spill the beans.

  16. Amazon will locate in the deep south. No unions, cheaper wages, no snow, good shipping airports. Do the demographics.

  17. My bet is they will go to Texas. Most business friendly state and home to Amazon CEO Bezos. Look what Ed Whitacare did with SBC back in the day. Moved it home.

The smartest comment was 10:58--who knew that Jeff Bezos lives in Texas.

So I'd bet on Austin. Hey, Craig Glazer--I assume there is some betting on this in Vegas? What say you?
Chuck is also pretty savvy about betting.

  24. Amazon has largest private research in the western world, about to upend grocery, pharma, autonomous transport and more. I think Amazon will choose a city for a freight airport logistics hub and another for ai brains.

  25. Texas is too out of distribution sweet spot, same Vegas though Amazon does have Amazon owned Zappos. Amazon is code eloping 1.5 billion dollar airport in Cincinatti.
