TKC MUST SEE!!! THE PITCH PUBLISHES 'BEST OF KANSAS CITY ISSUE' BUST!!

I'm writing this on a phone in a Midtown covfefe shop because it's worth a mention but not very much consideration . . .

THE 2017 "BEST OF KANSAS CITY ISSUE" FROM THE PITCH IS A STEAMING PILE OF GARBAGE NOT WORTH THE PAPER ON WHICH IT'S PRINTED!!!

Even worse, this monthly dead-tree operation is attempting to defy the world and hasn't even uploaded their content to their website yet.

A few highlights so we can maybe save a forest or at least some precious time for evening readers.

- They list Mayor Sly as the #1 Local Hero.

- The Pitch loves Kansas City because activism is "resurgent" but then touts the "Fight for $15" that has been underway for at least half a decade. They also take a lot of space to tout a local "progressive" lady congressional candidate who may or may not have a Red State chance in Hell.

- There are very few descriptions or writeups. Just some eye candy, a multi-page hype column and a lot of ads. The issue comes in at 103 pages but reads more like a MEGASHOPPER.

Old school denizens and media watchers might remember when. The Pitch "Best Of" issue was the last word in local trends and style. Those days are gone.

The monthly magazine gambit has inspired The Pitch to sacrifice their street cred for local Democratic Party promotional support within their glossy pages.

Don't get it twisted, the mag is worth a look because it's a beautiful freebie. But like so many denizens of Kansas City nightlife: It's all style and no substance.

You decide . . .

  1. They still print the pitch? I wondered what happened to my favorite weekly of 1991. That's adorable.

    1. it's all FB promotional material for Missouri and Kansas Democrats. Yael actually did a much better job of it on his blog.

Tony, have you read Feast magazine? What they write is a lot more relevant and informative. You should link them more often.

  2. At least they still have the phone sex ads in the back. Nowadays I think that qualifies as community service journalism.

  3. These folks must do about three hours of sniffing printers' ink BEFORE they write the "stories".
    Mostly fiction at that.
What passes for journalism in this cow town is nothing more than hype, PR, and local rah rah.
The reporters must have been on the cheer leading squad instead of attending classes at any J-school.
    Fantasyland on the plains.

  4. Whenever you see the Pitch anywhere, just pick up the pile and throw it in the nearest garbage can.

  5. Mayor Sly as the #1 Local Hero

That right there tells you how delusional they are.

  7. Used to LOVE the Pitch. They will never recover after letting go of Charles Ferruzza. He was the Pitch for most people.

  8. Almost all people who read the pitch are faggots. Almost all people who work at the pitch are faggots.

  9. Does the Pitch realize that Sly isn't a hero and he probably belongs in prison for his airport shenanigans alone?

  10. This year's issue was trash, the overlooked most of the real places in KC and just gave props to their advertisers.

  11. Pitch is worthless, just another Chamber of Commerce cheerleader rag!! There is no more alternative press, other than TKC. Too bad he has to include racist troll rants ( the price of a true free press).

  12. I am soooo glad Pitch printed this version with the glossy pages, Wiping my ass with the old paper gave my 'roids hell. This should help them maintain circulation.

  13. The Pitch is owned by a publisher in Nashville. They own other city magazines. The Pitch is just a formula magazine now, just like the other ones they own.

  14. Agreed. But I just got it for the three page centerfold anyway.
