TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY COUNCILMAN JERMAINE REED CONFRONTS ETHICS QUESTIONS OVER $30K FUND TRANSFER TO MAYORAL CAMPAIGN!!!
Here's a bit of bookkeeping from our blog community that deserves attention given the dearth of political accountability in Kansas City.
Checkit . . .
SPECIAL THANKS TO KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS FOR KEEPING TRACK OF COUNCIL DUDE JERMAINE REED'S MAYORAL CAMPAIGN AND A CURIOUSLY BIG COMMITTEE FUND SWITCHEROO RECENTLY REPORTED TO THE MISSOURI ETHICS WEBSITE!!!
And so, here's the word on the questions being posed to Councilman Reed:
"The very first donation to his mayoral campaign committee is around $30K from his last committee. The new campaign finance laws say no committee to committee contributions, and this is way over the KC municipal limits.
"At best, it is some very, very sloppy work. But it may be far more. Definitely worth a look."
And so we provide this look to our blog community regarding this questionable funding of the Council Dude's ambitions . . . Here's the contribution listing:
Even better, here's a relevant passage from the Missouri Ethics website regarding candidate committee contributions . . .
Can a candidate committee give a contribution to or receive a contribution from another candidate committee?
No. Under Article VIII, Section 23.3(4) a candidate committee cannot accept contributions from or make contributions to another candidate committee including a candidate committee or equivalent entity established under federal law. This prohibition does not apply to a candidate’s personal funds.
Now, the AWESOME TKC TIPSTER is correct in posing questions . . . This could just be typically sloppy work from the Council Dude AND there's always a chance for the politico to amend his report and account for any errors.
In the meantime, this brief insight into KCMO campaign finance rules & regs reminds us that the contest for Mayor is already underway.
