TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY BROOKSIDE HOMICIDE SPARKS PROGRESSIVE VS. RIGHT-WING DEBATE!!! STRIDENT CONSERVATIVE LANDLORD MENTIONED IN MURDER OF SUPPOSEDLY LIBERAL LAWYER INSPIRES LOCAL CULTURE WAR ON GUN CONTROL!!!
A man was gunned down after walking his children to school in a nice Kansas City neighborhood and most of the ensuing local conversation is focused on partisan politics and the eternal question of gun control.
Let's start with the facts . . .
David Jungerman has been tagged as a far right-wing Conservative. And there's pretty good documentation to back up this claim.
UPDATE: To be fair, Police have talked with Jungerman and say the white van initially reported as part of the homicide scene has now been cleared of suspicion. Nevertheless, Authorities haven't yet named a suspect but social media and most Kansas City denizens and a litany of news reports have cast their suspensions this dude via a litany of online postings.
Example from a former Kansas City Star reporter:
More importantly to our discussion today, the topic of his politics has been called out throughout social media.
Like it or not, after the horrific and senseless shooting in Las Vegas . . . Kansas City now hosts controversy over an old school white guy who is suspected in a tragic murder.
In this case, a $5.7-million judgement might have been the inciting incident but the debate has quickly moved to the topic of the 2nd Amendment and the ARMED alleged actions of increasingly angry old school white dudes emboldened by the Administration of President Trump.
On the other end of the spectrum, there's a very real attempt to spin the controversy away from attacks against Conservatives and talk about economic and racial differences . . .
A quote on the topic from an exceptionally clever TKC reader expressing outrage at the local news outlet of record . . .
"119 murders in KC this year. 75% of the victims are black. Rare white dude, likely left wing lawyer, gets killed in mostly white and coveted part of KC and KCUR makes its first post on a specific murder this year that I can find on the KCUR page. Tell me with feeling so I might believe you that this leftist radio station doesn’t have a deep racial bias. And no woke listeners/followers calls them out on this. #LiberalPrivilege"
Either way, the murder count in Kansas City continues to spike and political ideology now dominates the discussion as middle-class residents slowly realize that they are not immune from the same kind of violence that has plagued the urban core for years.
Yet discussions about guns, poverty and injustice predictably devolve into partisan ritual voicing nothing more than resentment and blame.
In the final analysis, the most important lesson in the aftermath of yet another tragic homicide is that the vitriolic discourse which now dominates the nation's politics fails to resolve so much hatred at the crux of nearly every murder as the escalating war of words consumes Kansas City and the nation.
