TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTERS RAGE AGAINST MORE CITY HALL CASH FOR STALLED DOWNTOWN CONVENTION HOTEL!!!

The fate of the Downtown Kansas City Convention Hotel is up for debate again the public slap fight couldn't come at a worse time for proponents of Mayor Sly's taxpayer subsidized development agenda.

Remember that OUR KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY warned of a hotel extension and more cash for this project back in September.

And now Kansas City tax fighters are pestering City Hall about broken promises as City Hall would rather focus on the upcoming airport vote.

To wit . . .

CHECK THIS KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTER MEMO EXPOSING THE DOWNTOWN CONVENTION HOTEL PIPE DREAM!!!

Here's the word:

City Council Members, Planning, Zoning and EDC Committee . . .

All of us have been lied to over and over again by the mayor, the city manager, the developer and his attorney. For two years you and the Kansas City voters were told . . . There were contracts and financing in place to proceed with the project. The mayor and the city manager, who are supposed to represent the voters, both stated they had seen the financing plans and they were adequate . . .

A short time back, HYATT Corporation related to CFRG there were never any contracts with KC Hotel Developers LLC and the financing was mostly Hyatt financiers money. Now Loew’s has taken HYATT's place . . . Have you seen any contracts, financing arrangements, etc.? These guys are asking for $168,000,000 of our taxpayer financing and it is your job to see the taxpayers are protected. We’re concerned the taxpayers will end up holding the bag for this fiasco . . .

This fact check poised to City Hall is over a bit of pending legislation and a revised proposal for a project that promised a Spring groundbreaking for 2017 that was delayed.

Meanwhile, have assured locals that the project will be completed by 2020.

You decide . . .

  1. Stick a fork in this one.

    It's done.

Not going to happen and shouldn't with the kind of sweetheart deal. Let another developer have a chance to build something without KC footing the bill.

    1. Was wondering what happened here. It's not a totally bad idea, we need more hotel space. Have you ever tried to book anything Downtown? Nearly impossible and always full. This shouldn't be so controversial, what sucks is that it's taking soooooooooo long.

    2. 2020? Really?

They keep on pushing the date back so much that it's getting more ridiculous every year.

  2. 40 million short on equity just reported in June.

This is not going to happen without more money from KC. THAT is the big question.

  3. This is why KCMO is such a favorite for developers. City Hall (Troy S.) is eager to mortgage the future of the citizens, and it's SO EASY. The developers come in with their pretty drawings and a fat "thank you" envelope. Suddenly, they get tax breaks and the schools, libraries and taxpayers get zip.

  4. Make no mistake...folks in City Hall and EDC as well as former City Council persons are getting money off of this deal. Scrutinize the predevlopment and consultant/lobbyist costs.....and you will find shell corporations with the same Registered Agent hiding the names of local officials both in office and out of office who are getting there share of kickbacks.

  5. this looks cool and it's hard to be against progress, but the impression of cronyism and maybe worse that hangs over eveything kcmo does makes many oeople opposed.

  6. The city is going to issue bonds for this project so get ready to take it up the arse on this one, codes has already issued permits so it’s gonna happen regardless

  7. No private suckers available so back to public?

  8. The taxpayers will foot the bill on this disaster

  9. This is another one of our Mayors NO BID deals with one of his buddies! PULL THE PLUG BEFORE THEY BREAK THE CITY!

  10. Developer has no development experience and no hotel management experience and is making no personal financial commitment.
Project totally dependent on sweetheart deals with officeholders and municipal employees.
A respectable hospitality corporation would not touch this with a ten foot pole.
Why tarnish the reputation of a national company with this nest of snakes?
Even if the Star protects this deal with favorable P.R. the stench will harm KCMO for many years. If it is built it will fail like the Vista Hotel.
How much corruption can Killa City stand?

  11. Sly is writing Burke a check with your money

  12. KC has about twenty billionaires they can put a hotel in if it makes sense

  13. Burke is still writing checks to Sly and many other officials with YOUR Tax dollars.

  14. Burke is waiting until after the KCI vote, and then will be back asking for more City money. Mark my word.

  15. BUCK FURKE, this farce has gone on long enough!
    PULL THE DAMN PLUG ALREADY!

  16. How much money is the city already into this fiasco for?
Watch for the "we've come this far, we can't stop now" routine right after the airport election.
This crap is as predictable as the sun coming up in the east every morning and the KCMO voters never cease to fall for the same old song.

  17. ^^^ Good question. It's at least a few million when you talk about fees for consultants and man hours against city staff.

  18. Hurry up and build it. I can't wait to have sex in it!
