TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KCFD LOSES EPIC DISCRIMINATION CASE!!!

Last week our blog community offered FIRST WORD about The Kansas City Fire Department confronting the consequences of discriminatory practices and now here's an EXCLUSIVE REPORT on the damage . . .

In a groundbreaking case of discrimination and failure to promote an African-American worker, the KCFD lost an EPIC case this week.

Here's the word:

"The jury awarded $356,694.69 for lost wages and future lost pension."

More word and reporting coming soon but this bit of legal consequences should inspire local leaders to look at the culture of the KCFD and it's legacy. Fact is, cronyism and family connections have dominated the department and THWARTED THE CAREERS OF ALL FIRST RESPONDERS OF EVERY DEMOGRAPHIC.

Translation: This isn't just a Black Vs. White problem but a systemic "old school" issue that many firefighters have battled against.

To be fair, there have been quite a few reformers who have challenged leadership and worked to create an environment that awards merit rather than political connections  mostly held among a small circle of legacy leaders. Nevertheless, those efforts have yet to evoke change throughout the organization and now KCFD confronts courtroom battles because of their failure to adapt.

  1. Systemic change might be an issue.

But look closer at City Legal.

They always lose and they have the same kind of problems within their department. They fail to promote the hardest workers and instead reward politics and loyalty to elected leaders. A totally screwed up systme that also costs Kansas City.

    1. Look no further than Mayor James. Didn't he make a career out of suing Kansas City? Under his leadership there has been one court battle after the next and very little consensus at City Hall.

    1. ^^^ Good point. It's actually taxpayers who are footing the bill for all of Kansas City's screw ups. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

    2. I was hoping that you would say we are bonded for that crap

  3. ^^^ Yeah, KC has insurance for this but over the long term, this just ups premiums and the cost. Eventually, you and I get to pay the bill.

  5. Everyone takes the same 100 question test graded at time it is done .25 of total. Oral part fire and personnel scenarios. Graded by a panel with a check list of what points are hit or
missed. They compare grades and meet an average. They dont see the person its only a number and audio. This is appeallable and they go through and show you what and why your grade was. This is .50 of your score. The other part is years on the job with 25 yrs earning .25 for the total grade. Ten yrs you would get .10 of the .25.
How is this unfair. How about study and make an effort. Fairest test i ever took
Sounds like a deadbeat wanting a free handout.
Hope they appeal cause that jury sucked

  6. The KCFD top brass only promote their friends. That's the way it has always worked. That only means you have to make friends and form alliances. It's part of the job, those who don't stay at the bottom ranks, those who can move up the ladder. I'm pretty sure that's the way it is in every other job.

  12. No they don't give you any feedback on the test at all. And when you appeal they don't regrade your test. They regrade the people who graded you.
