KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTERS ARGUE AGAINST CARPETBAGGER NEW AIRPORT SUPPORTERS WHO LIVE OUT OF TOWN!!!

Ironically, in much the same way that there's still a federal investigation attempting to figure out the impact of Russian hacking the 2016 election . . . Local tax fighters cry foul regarding the consultant and development cheerleader team pushing the new airport on Kansas City voters.

A quick rundown . . .

Northeast News called out the Hillary Clinton hardliners - The Dover Group for taking the lion's share of new airport consultant fees with very little local representation.

And then . . .

Former KCK Mayor Joe Reardon won't be voting in the upcoming November election but that hasn't stopped him from teasing locals about their chances of getting a job at KCMO Amazon HQ2 - Which is never gonna happen.

Finally, and just for fun . . .

Former dead-tree biz reporter Kevin Collison now works on a promotional blog for developers that touts all things AWESOME about Downtown, the Crossroads and the City Hall building boom agenda which is now focused on an airport win. He lives in Prairie Village.

Accordingly . . .

ARE TAX FIGHTERS CORRECT IN CRYING FOUL AGAINST #NEWKCI CARPETBAGGERS??? OR SHOULD WE WELCOME METRO ELECTION INFLUENCE INTO KANSAS CITY VOTING???

You decide . . .

  1. You'd think they'd want to move the airport to JoCo.

Then they could get even bigger consulting fees!

    1. Hired guns always get people angry but that's not really the point.

If none of them are from KC, how can they really be effective in turning out the vote. I've seen some mailers and a lot of earned media from TV but that's about it. It's just a couple of weeks away and the campaign seems kind of lackluster to me. They had a lot more energy and enthusiasm built up for the Go Bond campaign.

Without the marijuana issue on the ballot, they won't get the same kind of numbers they had in the Spring.

I'm not saying they won't win. But this time it will be closer.

    2. Joe really did a disservice by making what was tantamount to a threat and obviously a lie. He has been hanging around KC too long. That kind of persuasion only works in campaign headquarters and comes off really dirty when the TV cameras are rolling.

  2. Is the the campaign dirty?

    OF COURSE!

All campaigns have to roll in the mud with each other. But at the end of the day, KC needs to have a new airport and we need to push our city into the future. The people against it are just stuck in the past and they don't want to see real change in our community.

  3. Kansas Joe Reardon went on Ruckus last night and tried to make the case that Amazon wouldn't come here unless a new Airport was built, an International Airport no less. If you think Bezos and the other Amazon Hot-Shots are going to fly in to a new KCI in BFE Platte County, you're nuttier than a Christmas Fruitcake. Amazon already has two distribution centers located in rural and Southern Johnson County KS, within 20 minutes of the New Century Airport in Olathe which is large enough to land most any small to mid size charter. Why would any corporate goon fly in to KCI then saddle up for a two hour commute to Southwestern Johnson County? Fact: They wouldn't. Next?

  5. I knew that freight flies out of MCI, but Fairfax in KCK actually is an exclusively freight and charter airport. The GM plant and the airport are close together for a good reason. It is kind of our forgotten airport, but very important to the economy of the area.

    1. GM and Fairfax are so close that if you look at a map, GM was built on top of it. FYI, Fairfax has been closed for nearly 50 years.

  6. There's also those carpetbaggers the Show-Me Institute. FROM ST. LOUIS???

But I guess we won't be hearing about them? Yeah strong argument there Tony.

  7. It doesn't matter where the campaign consultants are from, the locals would lie just like the out of town folks. The sad fact is the so called civic leaders who are willing to bankrupt KC just for their personal profits.

  8. Your argument might hold water if you limit use if the airport to only those persons with a KCMO address. There'd be lotsa lowriders parked there but not many flights.

You gotta lay off that mexican ice, bro.

  9. It's kinda sad and shows the real weakness of the region when KCMO looks at people who don't live in the city as "carpetbaggers".
85% of metro residents don't live in KCMO.
Do you really think that businesses and other organizations who depend on their money want them to go back to where they came from and stay our of KCMO's business?
There's a real mismatch between all the "big big urban world class city" rhetoric and actual actions.
    Parochialism is pretty bush league.

  12. 9:34 this has NOTHING to do with 'real change' for the community. This project only has to do with federal monies earmarked for airports and the folks that want a bite of those monies. Real change for the community comes from the feds listening to communities and allowing communities to decide what are valuable projects, not from patriarchal patronizing of the feds. The carpetbagger analogy is spot on, does not matter if they have regional shills. A new airport will do nothing for the quality of life for metro residents. Visitors to communities do not base their destination on airports. The feds are completely out of touch, they may as well give peanut butter and a lollipop to man dying of thirst in the desert.

  13. Everyone knows the fix is in on this election. Too bad nobody bothered to tell the voters.

  14. Have you noticed the rift raft on air flights.they are drunk and pee,on them selves they argue and fight with airline, employees. It's like a Greyhound bus in the sky There is a better class of rider on an AMTRAK.And the extra fee added to the ticket. Don't do business with the restaurants and retail in the airport. Spend your money when you arrive at your destination.

  15. to push the region into the future is about embracing and restoring and building upon what makes it unique. WHAT MAKES THE REGION, THE METRO, UNIQUE? The federal agenda and resource extracting/polluting global companies has decimated the metro and surrounding communities. Claiming an airport with a design that alludes to rolling fields of wheat will set the sail to the future is a farce. The metro can live without shills and their shit-ball nonsensical arguments posted in comment sections of local rags.

  16. federally subsidized corporate agriculture, H2 visa works on snap with ACA health insurance does not make the region unique it makes the region a victim.

  17. 4:18: So when was the last time you flew anywhere?

    ReplyDelete
  18. who gives a fck when he flew last, wtf does that have to do with anything. Who the fuck likes to buy a $5 bottle of water at the airport. Next some local idiot is going to say we need to fix our overabundant sidewalks in all the residential areas as if folks actually used them often.

  19. 4:50 You don't have to take my word for it Google Distruptive airline passengers. And the airlines keep records. And I have taken the AMTRAK AS WELL THE SOUTHWEST CHIEF THEY HAVE 3 STAR MEALS. AND VARY FRIENDLY PASSENGERS,FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. AND IF THERE IS A LOW LIFE CAUSING TROUBLE. THEY STOP THE TRAIN THE LOCAL SHERIFF IS WAITING AND TAKE HIM AWAY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TURN THE TRAIN AROUND AND BE DELAYED.

  22. Great article from NE news. Ironic that all the corporate donors for the campaign can not find their own asses when it comes to developing something useful for urban planning in the region. They at best make things little globs or shit like a failed Sprint Campus. Shook hardy and bacon is an all around POS firm.

  23. Hallmark, the bunch of dumb asses. Who are they kidding. A ny consultant told them they should import homeless folks from NY to make Crown Center more interesting. Crown Center, lunch for hallmark employees, limping along for decades. Crown Center now has the benefit of being close to the cross roads district which they had nothing to do with helping it succeed.

  26. 5:06: You may have seen the behavior you describe, but I went on a really long (11 time zones away) trip this year as well as a shorter domestic trip and I didn't see any such behavior.

On the other hand, given how uncomfortable airline seats have become and how deaf parents are to their little darlings' screaming, I can't say I'd blame someone for going berserk.
