Progressive outrage and public safety concerns have thwarted an upcoming alt-right event at one of the oldest theaters in Kansas City.

THE FOLLY THEATER CANCELS THE MILO TROLL ACADEMY BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH PROTEST OR AN ANTIFA RIOT!!!
Here's the statement in their own words and attempting to equivocate . . .
OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING THE MILO YIANNOPOULOS EVENT AT THE FOLLY THEATER
The Folly Theater has cancelled the November 5 show. We were concerned about the safety and security of our employees and patrons.
Over the years, we have rented our theater to a wide variety of organizations, hosting everything from church services to drag queen shows. In fact, in the last 12 months, we’ve rented our facility to more than 37 organizations who’ve performed 72 shows.
In this case, and the vast majority of these instances, we don’t handle ticket sales, event production or promotion, we simply rent The Folly Theater as a venue.
While the Folly regularly rents our facility to a diverse range of speakers and performing artists as part of our mission, the views represented by artists aren’t necessarily reflective of the views of our staff, volunteers, board or donors.
Unfortunately, when we booked this appearance we were unfamiliar with the personality involved. We did not conduct the appropriate due diligence and for that we are sorry.
This incident has prompted us to review our booking practices to prevent such incidents occurring in the future.
We remain committed to bringing in diversity, but the safety and security of our staff, patrons and volunteers is always our highest priority.

We reached out to some of our sources planning to protest and with connections to ANTIFA, this is what they said:
"This is not about killing free speech. Let's be clear that Milo had been promoting pedophilia for a year before the violence began to break out at Milo's speaking events."
Actually, Milo was recently forced to resign from Breitbart over a controversy involving quotes condoning consensual underage gay sex with older men . . . But we get the point.
Additionally, the old and busted Folly deserves a break here as well given that the Berkeley campus broke out into a full scale ANTIFA riot earlier this year during a talk by Milo. Honestly, if somebody sneezes too hard at the Folly, the floor shakes.
Still, the biggest slap in the face might have been that the Folly claims they just didn't know who the guy was . . . Which is actually a bit of a reality check for the importance of the so-called culture war in the lives of every day people just struggling to survive.

ReplyDeleteThe Folly is not a government entity, they are a private organization supported mostly by charitable donations and whatever small profit margin they can eek out. Milo is free to perform his antics on the street and the pass the hat around and see who gives him money.
He still has free speech but he does not have freedom from the consequences and repercussions of his words. It looks like the Folly took "The Troll Academy" to school.
He really doesn't have that much to say, but he should be allowed to say it nevertheless. I suspect the cancellation may have been economic rather than political. He's past his sell-by date.
