Will Kansas City Overspend For Amazon???

Most people give the online retailer too much cash . . . Here's a look at City Hall lured into another expensive game: “Taxpayers should watch their wallets as the trophy deal of the decade attracts politicians to a hyper-sophisticated tax-break auction,” said Greg LeRoy, who runs the watchdog group Good Jobs First. “We fear that many states and localities will offer to grossly overspend to attract Amazon, even though the business basics — especially a metro area’s executive talent pool — will surely control the company’s decision.”

Cities scramble to land new Amazon headquarters

Local officials around the country are scrambling to put together enticing proposals to attract a new corporate headquarters for Amazon, a once-in-a-lifetime development project that would amount to billions of dollars in direct and indirect investment.

  1. Yes they will, sLIE can't turn down another opportunity to spend the already stretched thin paychecks of hard working people of killa city, he just loves spending other people's money especially because he doesn't own property or plan on staying here when his worthless mayorship is up

  2. it's hard to see how any tax break could be too much, as amazon would be a transformative addition.

Let West Virginia be a lesson: We never got anything from our coal, except black lung & mountain tops that look like the moon. We never got anything from our natural gas except higher rents & arrogant, obnoxious migrant workers. Before these two tragedies, we never got anything from the clear cutting of our forests except poisoned streams & deadly flash floods.

Just as a business that can't pay a living wage has no real value, so being afraid to earn a fair tax revenue makes the addition of the business moot.

Trust me on this, they will not hire local. Most of their work force, especially middle management will relocate. Unless you're brave enough to not give them tax breaks, you're better off without the disruption & the dashed hopes.

  6. Remember when Sprint was going to save the metro. All it left were unemployed workers and a devastated commercial real estate market.

  8. Byron again your facts aren't right and you are talking about something you know NOTHING about!

My grandfather worked in the coal mines for years, raised 10 kids, had a decent house " until the welfare blacks moved in and made the neighborhood unlivable", he lived to be an old man and my grandmother did fine after his death on his pension and SS.

So why don't you stop trying to put America out of work. As a matter of fact it seems like you might be a homegrown terrorist! I'm half tempted to report your statements to HLS
