Today's Silly Kansas City Star Idea

More proof that the local newspaper doesn't really have any idea about how city government works . . . And that fact that KCMO is now infamous for its neglect of all things outside the loop or the Crossroads. Take a look:

Should struggling suburbs go out of business and merge with Kansas City?

Ferrelview, Mo., population 450, give or take, is in the middle of an uncivil war. The chairwoman of the Board of Trustees wants to get rid of the police chief. Other residents want to keep him. Everyone's worried about declining revenue and fewer services. Emotions are raw.

  1. Wouldn't the folks in these towns do better by tying concrete blocks to their feet and trying to wade the Missouri River?

Does anyone in their right mind think that the ignored and forgotten parts of Kansas City won't be fighting to de-annex themselves from the stinking mess between 85th Street and the River within the next ten years? Kansas City is doomed! The moochers have sucked the productive areas dry, and all that is going on at the "Joke On Oak" is squabbling over the scraps.

  2. I feel for the small communities surrounded (engulfed?) by the Horrible KCMO. I live in a part of KC that was annexed in 1950. We had no choice - they just gulped and swallowed us as part of the land grab in the Northland. We get NUTHIN' from the City, but a drain on our pocketbooks. If there was a way we could de-annex and push for inclusion in another municipality, we would do it in a New York minute.

  4. Why would any city and it's residents want to be a part of Kansas City Mo?

  6. What a stupid idea. If KC had anything to offer these folks in teh burbs they would be there. As businesses continue to wise up and move out of the city KC won't have any pockets left to pick.

  7. I am from St Louis. All the city will do is take your 1% earnings tax, increase your property tax, have your school's go down the toilet and then send anything leftover down to the hood. This small town needs to rethink annexation. They think they are overtaxed and underserved wait until their annexed by Kansas City!

  11. ^^^^^^

    That's funny,

They need to merge with Liberty not Kansas City.

  12. This burg ran one of the most notorious speed traps in the area. They subsisted on those ripoff revenues for years. Now that the state put a stop to that, they're crying. They would still be robbing folks if they could. No sympathy here.
