A quick question an summation from a denizen of our blog community also watching the circus in progress this week . . . The council says they're going to KEEP MOVING FORWARD but that doesn't make it right.
Here's the word:
TKC READER: A Single-Terminal Named FUBAR
Even odds on the KCMO Council pulling the plug on the current KCI single-terminal selection process, during an announcement WED/THUR of this week.
What a total "FUBAR" scenario it has been!!
Mayor James poisoned the well from the beginning. Old habits are hard to change, and "Sly" James continues to stumble into one mess after another . . . Poor style, no finesse, and headstrong bullying antics to get his way. Mayor James seems intent on assuring every KCMO resident that he only knows how to lead by intimidation, bullying, and colluding with contributors.
City Manager Troy Schulte deserves a formal reprimand, if not something more severe, for his surrender of duties as KC's top hired fiscal watchdog and exemplar of professional municipal management. A very big disappointment from a supposed apolitical manager. With residents depending upon Schulte to play by the rules, and not succumb to political shenanigans . . .
Councilwoman Justus would be well-advised to resign, and take some private time to reflect. As soon as the hush-hush no-bid billion dollar deal for Burns and McDonnell was revealed as illegal and unethical, why did she go on to chair the terminal selection committee? Does Jolie Justus have no concept of proper ethics? Is she so completely blinded by her ambition to be Mayor that she no longer comprehends the bright red boundary lines separating right from wrong?

You decide . . .
Power and Light, Jazz District, Hotel Boondoggle, Airport... anyone see a trend in fiscal nuttiness yet?
ReplyDeletemaybe it was up to the city manager to put this on a professional track even as politicians, in their naive corruption, wanted an overtly rigged deal.
ReplyDeleteif the professional manager is not professional, he should be replaced.
it would be interesting to know--perhaps we'll find out--what the outside counsel thought and think as the farce unfolds.
ReplyDeletegood faith outside counsel are nomally in favor of doing things the right way.
that may have been difficult in a situation that began messed up and became increasingly problematic.
And the big-time urban metropolis that Sly constantly fantacizes about actually performs like a Third World country.
ReplyDeleteAnd a poorly and corruptly managed one at that.
The whole metro and major construction firms around the country are laughing their butts off.
How can anything that has been this screwed up from the beginning have any chance of turning out well?
What an embarrassment!
Restart again and again and turn up the spinning speed ... or the speed of the spin ... etc. Don't be thinking about moving to Overland Park either ...
ReplyDelete@8:18 AM 'performs like a Third World country'
ReplyDeleteThanks for clarifying I thought being new here I might be imagining things
The Sly James/ Troy Schulte corrupt machine is far worse than the Pendergast machine. Remember Troy's cousin is a local developer often hidden in most of these no-bid deals. Both Sly and Troy are corrupt.
ReplyDeleteAll of this discussion still begs the question, SHOULD THERE BE A NEW AIRPORT AT ALL?
ReplyDeleteRegardless of any financial "Blue Smoke and Mirrors", and any reassurances from officeholders who will be out of office soon, if Kansas City borrows money, or if anyone borrows money on behalf of Kansas City, there IS an ultimate risk that the Residents and Taxpayers of Kansas City, Missouri may have to shoulder the burden of servicing the debt. PERIOD! Any statements to the contrary are as credible as claims that the financing would be guaranteed by Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, or The Easter Bunny!
Therefore, before any more "Dreams and Schemes" occur, there must be a vote by the Resident of Kansas City, Missouri as to whether there should even be the construction of a new Airport!
Because of the chicanery, misfeasance, and misinformation regarding this subject that has emanated from City Hall, this vote must not be held until arrangements have been made for an independent agency, possibly the Missouri Secretary of State's Office, to oversee the voting process and certify the results.
If the vote is "NO", there can be no further discussion of a "New" Airport. However, the City Government may then begin the process of submitting to the KCMO voters the question of issuance of Airport Bonds for the purpose of remodeling the existing Airport.
This is the way that Government functions in this Country!
Move the airport to JoCo! Put it near the old King Louie/joco heritage center (or whatever the fuck they call it). Or, put it by the OP convention center.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget green zone, or the smart grid gift to KCPL. Then there was monopoly fix to Black and Veatch grab for ev infrastructure, or how about 50 million plus for abandoned rail bid.
ReplyDeleteSly is doing the Shaggy dance, wasn't me. Did you notice him or Troy complaining. No you did not.
ReplyDeleteSame Marc. Chamber, Metropolitan energy center. It was pork orgy and fix. If Kansas accepts this slop it will be most interesting. The Chamber sponsors and Rockhurst mafia are the Dilberts who foisted this corruption and still are with Burn em Mac and KCPL at the helm.
ReplyDeleteThen putting Cindy in charge of tif while she negotiates with KCPL then she joins them. They must have wanted her nail tech expertise.
ReplyDeleteOperation Waterloo will clean things up
ReplyDeleteSly likes making the game structured for lawyer special favors, but now the city is getting sued, discovery and subpoenas should be fun.
ReplyDeleteStar should do a deal by deal analysis of last 10 years
ReplyDeleteWhere did the money go and what did we get for it. The Airport selection is now forever tainted.
ReplyDeleteSly was bold faced caught, play the video to see what a bs artist looks like
ReplyDeleteTo make the comedy even higher, they then complain about not having local control. As if they have stature of integrity to lord other parts of KC, can you say bs artists and fix
ReplyDeleteHere is a clue, when big companies hire mediocre public servsnt types it is either because they want to set the fix or they are getting payback for already having delivered as a special interest tool.
ReplyDeleteWho does that- Kcpl , burn em Mac, just go to Chamber sponsor roster for top tiers
ReplyDeleteGreitens might want an audit of this crap
ReplyDeleteSame Kansas as this stuff cuts across state lines
ReplyDeleteDamn bs artist gravy train is coming unraveled, but again combination of incompetence and corruption
ReplyDeletehaving the right of discovery on the airport crony process? that would be nirvana for a good government vigilante lawyer.
ReplyDeletethe outside counsel, if they're smart, will want the final selection to be immune from what might be discovered later.
that might imply automatic rejection of the crony deal.
fun to watch a trainwreck, no?
Saving KCI with a $100 million remodel is common sense.
ReplyDeleteVote no on a $1 billion (maybe $2 billion after changes and inflation) boondoggle.
The voters need to bring common sense to this corrupt elites project.
What would George Brett do?
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteI've said/written before that the Kansas City airport should be built at the Richards Gebaur site...that is, if the city hasn't all ready fucked it up...much of the necessary infrastructure exists....could be built while the existing KCI operates without any disruption...closer to Johnson county, those who actually use the airport MOST...existing KCI used to general aviation and freight operations...or....Johnson county, get off your ass and build the new KC Metro airport at the existing New Century/old Olathe Naval Air Station...while KC snooze and loose...
