TKC READER: KANSAS CITY 'AGGRESSIVE BID' FOR AMAZON HQ IS RIDICULOUS!!!

An EPIC take from one of the best and brightest who read this blog . . .

"I already heard the City Manager say if we had a single terminal airport it would be a real selling point to attract amazon. B.S., by election day they will be saying when the second coming of Christ happens he will chose kc's single terminal airport. This amazon reminds me of bombardier that was going to manufacture airplanes in kc and, of course, all the promises that Google fed City Hall."

Kansas City to make 'aggressive bid' for Amazon Headquarters

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Amazon is shopping for a city to house a second headquarters and city leaders want the company to choose Kansas City. On Thursday, the company made a surprise announcement opening up requests for proposals for the $5 billion construction project that could create up to 50,000 jobs.

  1. Why don't the Chamber of Commerce, the VisitKC tourist-counters, the overpaid eco devo crowds, and the business community at large work on attracting Amazon and the motley crew at 12th and Oak focus on things like decent streets, reducing crime, dangerous buildings, and all that other boring stuff that also happen to be what they're actually responsible for.
Amazon's already well-aware of how KCMO government works, having just witnessed the skill and expertise exhibited in the airport terminal fiasco. The region would probably enhance its chances of attracting Amazon if the KCMO clowns just lay low.
By the way, the former Sprint campus is about three quarters vacant and that's wonderfully close to the Amazon warehouse in Edgerton.

  2. Anonymous reader Tony Botello is right, Kansas City needs to go fuck itself, demolish all buildings and development, go back to an empty field in the middle of the US, and leave nothing except for Tony's mom's house and the basement that he hides out in.

  4. KC is doing exactly what you want a city to do. Why wouldn't we aggressively bid for it? I hope we get it.

  5. The clowns in the City council are not capable of selling KC to Amazon. These folks need to lay low and do nothing during the evaluation process.

  6. Aggressively bidding really means massive corporate welfare. Let's at least be honest about it. The city is constantly swinging for the fences (and missing) in the hopes that somehow one big hit will turn things around. Newsflash - there are no shortcuts in reinvigorating a city that has been looted by the political class for so long.

  7. Hey, @ 8:08 - do you spell "political class" K-A-N-S-A-S ?

  8. The only people who get consistently burned by the antics of KCMO government are the residents and businesses who have the misfortune of actually being there.
Small businesses are regularly undercut by city subsidies of big out-of-town corporations and actually end up footing the bill in higher taxes and fees. And residents constantly see taxes, fees, and utility bills increase, all the while getting the hype from city hall about how KC is "on the move" because of public/private partnerships, in which the private folks get the profits and the public ends up with the debt.
An odd definition of progress, if ever there was one.

  10. Before the city spends millions on a losing effort to attract Amazon I would ask them to take a tour of Front Street, the west bottoms, the Winchester industrial area. Then take a tour of the hundreds of warehouses brimming with business in North Kansas City. Then ask why the difference?

  11. I suspect Kansas City will bid and the HQ will end up in Overland Park.

Your "best and brightest" have a pretty poor grip on the English language.

  13. kansas city would be a great choice for amazon.

bezos loves engineers and tech tupes and kansas city is already a draw from the great state universities around us.

the emerging urban vibe would be a good feature, too.

  14. The good news is Amazon guarantees (if they get a shit load of tax breaks and abatements) our home values will go up by an average of $5000.00 and all citizens will get a deal on Amazon Prime. You just fill out the online subscription form and wait five years for Amazom to say "screw this noise" and change the whole deal to suit them.

  15. Amazon will not locate in Kansas City Mo due to the earnings tax.

They will be in either southern Johnson or western Wyandotte country close to main roads if the come to the KC metro area.

  16. I want to watch the video of Sly James dancing with Jeff Bezos.

We saw just how well that worked with Sly's bid for a national political convention.

Agree about Sprint for corporate office campus, tho they will want other land as well. All those Amazonian execs are gonna want to also live in the Blue Valley School District.

  17. Oh I forgot--the other reason they will not build in KCMO even if the land is free is because they will not pay the 1% earnings tax! Bezos buys the land, but the execs have to live and work here. And they ain't stupid.

They will only visit Westport weekdays before 9pm, and the Plaza when it is not prom season. Instead of First Friday, they will sponsor and frequent Third Fridays in downtown Overland Park.

  18. Tracy, just exactly where would your beloved Shawnee be without KCMO?

  19. Well, we were here first, in 1831, as one of the Shawnee Indian missions (not the one in Fairway). Then the actual city, originally called Shawneetown, was incorporated Aug. 10, 1856.

Our first sheriff, Wild Bill Hickok, was named constable in 1858. So where would we be? Kickin' your butt, that's where.

Whereas KCMO was not established at ALL until some traders settled there at the landing originally known as Possum Trot.

So, I guess one might say, we in Shawnee were sittin' pretty, shooting the occasional possum, and grilling it up on a nice September afternoon, long before the rascals and traders, the forefathers of Sly James and his ilk, ever thought to try to steal the wealth of their fellow Indians and travellers like they do now.

It really all gets back to when whites stole ALL this area from the Indians. Something we were never taught in public schools.

I got a notice yesterday that the Bureau of Indian Nations has just issued an amnesty, pardoning 240 million white Americans. So much for Trump and DACA, huh? Enjoy this great weekend. I'm grilling up some possum.

  20. The Truth of the Matter9/8/17, 7:53 PM

Did anyone else notice how Tracy came on here saying exactly what Super Dave said three hours before her? Then goes on a Indian rant that really showed her stupidity. First Shawnee the city came along in 1857. Kansas City was founded and became a town on the Kansas side in 1850 7 whole years before Shawnee. It was 1830 when Rev Johnson arrived with his new bride in present-day Turner, Wyandotte County, Kansas. Johnson proposed to the missionary society that a central school be built to serve many tribes. A site was chosen where a branch of the Santa Fe Trail passed through the Shawnee lands. Building began, and the school opened at the present Johnson County location in October 1839.
The city of Shawnee and Tracy neither one know their history. By the way Hickok was constable of Monticello Township which west of what was to become Shawnee and Lenexa both. That was the real area most the Shawnee Indians went to because of Mill creek.
Stay wacky Tracy, but don't try and quote history!

  21. Amazon is the gray goo we have been warned about. It's swallowing industries everywhere and concentrating all the power to one corporation.

If you're a property owner, then Amazon might be good for you, as it will boost the value of your home, but for everyone else, it will price them out of the market.

Amazon is not necessarily going to hire local, they will probably bring a lot of east and west coaster's with big pockets books and drive up the cost of living for everyone.

It seems this city is full on with the process of gentrification. If not then please force them to invest in local talent, and hire local people. Then maybe all Kansas City citizens can benefit off this.
