TKC QUESTION: DID TARGET JUST OBLITERATE KANSAS CITY ARGUMENTS AGAINST $15 MINIMUM WAGE???
We've heard it all before . . . Paying better wages will destroy local biz in Kansas City.
Don't get it twisted, we have respect for the more reasonable arguments against an illegal KCMO wage mandate despite the fact that Missouri's $7.70-per-hour minimum is straight up WAGE THEFT.
Still, the latest big news from the corporate world should cause reasonable people to second guess some of their assumptions.
Food for thought . . .
Fox Biz: Did Target aim for $15 minimum wage too soon?
CNBC: Target's move to $15 an hour 'blows up' this myth about raising minimum wage
American Prospect: Target Takes the $15 High Road. Where’s Walmart?
To be fair, some of this data doesn't apply to a lot of small biz or even fast food burger flipping where low wages are built into the paradigm.
Thing is, Target is pretty much the best store in the world. TKC (real life Target lady - Latino dude version 2.0) legit looks forward to spending time there and most of the equipment which powers this blog comes by way of Target coupon - Old camera, sweatpants, snack cakes and discount Indian computer running Ubuntu.
Like it or not, Target is raising the bar and provides the best box store experience in the nation. Kansas City employers who can't keep up with this new standard might soon find themselves unable to shift low wage blame onto "Fight For $15" political efforts and, instead, confront a perception as cheapskates holding onto outdated biz practices.
