Bounced Checks And Questions Around Leadership Plagues The American Jazz Museum

http://blackartinamerica.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/BAIA-Sonie-Friends-9-27-17-3.58-PM.mp3 Today we spoke with Dennis Winslett, musician and former Director of Education at American Jazz Museum and SoniƩ Ruffin, artist and former visiting curator for the American Jazz Museum. The Jazz Museum has been in the news as of late for bounced checks to jazz musicians and vendors from the recent production of the 2017 Kansas City Jazz and Heritage Festival that took place Labor Day weekend.

  1. The Black Plague. Surprisingly, it's not about White people. It's the mentality of being seen, first, in certain social circles, lack of genuine, original thought or ideas, lack of support, cohesive agenda. In an atmosphere like that, people like me aren't willing to invest in any meaningful way.

The people involved in this 20-year project can't see the light for the dark clouds that overshadow it. Now, the City is calling for an RFP to develop housing under the belief that if they build it... there are so many newer houses of such extreme poor, built quality and design -- and it's the same thing that has plagued the completion of the development called Monarch Manor. You can put all shades of color on the pig... it's still a pig.

People have money to invest but with the scoundrels that head up these projects at 18th Vine and other urban areas... it is doomed by the "see me" ideology. They've destroyed nearly everything that is historic about 18th & Vine. It's not enough to say this affluent or wildly popular person lived there. If there's nothing historic left to appreciate, it's really just development. And in these parts of the City, any development will do... or not, like here.

  2. All this from a city that desperately needs and earnings tax for emergencies services they continue to cut. Why does the population tolerate this? ....Oh, cause a big chunk of the population doesn't work, own anything or pay taxes anyway. Now who are the slaves?

  3. Wow, look at CHEP TOE's outfit! I can 'see her!" Taxpayers furnish clown garb for these 'people?'

  4. Y'all are racists. Why can't we support the Jazz district as well as we do downtown?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Because downtown actually gets visitors and has economic activity, while the Jazz District is a ghost town.

  6. It would be great to see this historic part of our city thrive. We took a group of clients there on a tour last year and wrote a donation check for $500 as a thank you for their hospitality. My bank contacted me after 60 days because no one from the Jazz History Museum ever deposited the check. It appears they might just need some new leadership or oversight. We're not a big company and we don't write huge donation checks, but we support a lot of local KC causes throughout the year and we're always pleased to see our city grow and thrive. In all my years, I've never seen a donation check come back because someone didn't take the time to deposit it. Disappointing to say the least.

  7. If they don't have someone superb leading the activity don't give them the money, fix so you don't waste.

  9. I watched the video the lady is being asked how come it failed, she won't admit that it is in a terrible location and the white man doesn't want to go into the area of town.

Leaving it to the black dollar only shows you how much it failed to bring in hardly any money.

until it gets moved to a safer environment it will be struggle to get people there let alone any famous artists.

  10. Look at the loser who brought all this cost onto a city to begin with?

Yes Cleaver started the money flow into a few city blocks that has cost taxpayers millions upon millions and it still can't even come close to carrying itself.

The time has come to cut the apron strings and the whole thing either floats or sinks.

  11. How about the City shut down the bars in P&L, Westport and the Crossroads at 1 a.m. BUT, allow bars in the 18th & Vine District to be open until 3 a.m. Advantage, them. And if the "white" entertainment districts complain, call them racists. The City can do this. They have unlimited power, don't you know.

  12. ....and "Professor Kraske" wonders why more people aren't gaga over jazz in KC!

  13. Actually, deny that any of these comments are racist. There's nothing wrong with investing in neighborhoods east of Troost. The problem I have is with the people in charge of so-called leadership there. The District is a fail because of the same circles of people still trying to make a name for themselves. When the focus is on one or a handful of people, there is no community buy-in: Black or White. It's not that we don't believe in the historic content of the area although there is little of historic variety left there. I don't believe in the people. Practically, every business in the United States that failed has a leadership problem where... people did not buy-in or they lost support. This is the very thing that plagues the area now. Cleaver has done great things and he is to be commended on becoming Missouri's first Black Congressman but it's time to move on. His time has past. You Diane and Emmanuel Cleaver has corrupted this area. Until they are gone (and we thank them for their investment) things are going to continue to go in this order. I will not invest my money into this project knowing that it will be mismanaged and the friends network drive new cars, make huge salaries with no results other than inflated egos.

Further, the Black dollar is very powerful. Just look at the hair industry - a billion dollar industry primarily funded by the Black dollar. Let every Black person in America go natural and only Buy Bronner Brother's products. The White man will lose his mind. Guaranteed.

  14. An amazing testimony on a spell caster who brought my wife back to me..
I'm from CANADA, I'm happily married to a lovely and caring wife, with two kids A very big problem occurred in my family seven months ago, between me and my wife so terrible that she took the case to court for a divorce she said that she never wanted to stay with me again, and that she did not love me any more So she packed out of my house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get her back, after much begging, but all to no avail and she confirmed it that she has made her decision, and she never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my wife So i explained every thing to her,so she told me that the only way i can get my wife back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for her too So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow her advice. Then she gave me the email address of the spell caster whom she visited.{driayaryi2012@hotmail.com}. So the next morning,i sent a mail to the address she gave to me,and the spell caster assured me that i will get my wife back the next day what an amazing statement!! I never believed,so he spoke with me,and told me everything that i need to do. Then the next 3 days, So surprisingly, my wife who did not call me for the past {5} months gave me a call to inform me that she was coming back So Amazing!! So that was how she came back that same day, with lots of love and joy,and she apologized for her mistake, and for the pain she caused me and my children. Then from that day,our relationship was now stronger than how it were before,by the help of a spell caster . So, i will advice you out there to kindly visit the same website {driayaryi2012@hotmail.com},if you are in any condition like this,or you have any problem related to "bringing your ex back. So thanks to the Dr Iyaryi for bringing back my wife, and brought great joy to my family once again.{driayaryi2012@hotmail.com} And also Reach him on WhatsApp Number: +2349057915709 Thanks Dr. IyaryI
