TKC FUN FACT: EVERYBODY AGAINST KANSAS CITY NEW EDGEMOOR AIRPORT!!!

And so, a busted bidding process that turned into a media circus has been finalized by City Council and now heads to the ballot in November.

Meanwhile, we wanted to share one of the best quotes on this deal from our blog community: "Still no agreement, no details, no pictures. So far it's Nancy Pelosi International - you have to build it to see what's in it. No thanks."

A few things to consider:

- No, this isn't Mayor Sly playing 3D Chess . . . Burns & Mac supports him with real money, he lamented the choice at the outset of the vote on Thursday and seems distant from a process where he was defeated after the rigged "hometown team" scheme fell apart.

- Burns & Mac might still have a case about this process . . . The smarter thing to do is wait but they might not want to risk losing ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

- November is coming quickly, Edgemoor and City Hall don't have much time to convince skeptical voters.

Finally, the voted public has been LARGELY EXCLUDED FROM THIS SECRETIVE AND CONVOLUTED PROCESS . . . If the opposition can mount any kind of campaign at all, the support for this unseen idea seems limited.

You decide . . .

  1. We'll have to see what George Brett has to say about all this. I think I will vote no. This whole project has been corrupt from the start.

  2. George actually has been designing the new airport. He didn't want to let on he is a hell of a designer. If golfers can design golf courses then baseball players can design "uh gulp" airports can't they

  3. Burns and Mac should be entitled to a refund from all the bought politicos who let them down, you can't buy a fix like you used to, though you can get a newspaper

  4. If Brett's designing it it will be shaped like an asshole.

  5. they're a little behind the curve.

no voters are changing their minds and are going to vote.

the key will be to present more than a concept for undecided voters. missouri voters are from missouri and will want to know concretely what they're voting for if they do.

  6. no voters are NOT changing their minds. sorry.

  7. If you believe KC has 26 million tourists, if you believe the streetcar is a transportation success. Vote yes. If you don't believe City Hall's numbers on those projects, Vote NO.

  8. it will be interesting to watch how they roll out a campaign on this.

is anybody setting up to campaign against it?

any possibility losers might try to sabotage for a second bite at the apple?

  9. Despite their behavior, I'm still sorry B and M lost.

It 's like watching one your kids get deservedly punished for misbehavior. Not fun.

    ReplyDelete
  10. B and M should put in an unsolicited ONE BILLION DOLLAR bid to replace City Hall and start the whole no-bid hometown swiss challenge process again. They need the dough!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Maybe Burns and Mac can build a new Johnson County airport that the airlines will like better.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Protesters are mad about this. And that. In fact, Kaperneck supporters suppose to protest the protesters who are protesting the airport. Kalerneck protesters are allegedly going to protest by boycotting their jobs and possibly taking the air out of footballs in store and repacking them with helium.
Look for 85 yard field goals and maybe even a few touchdowns over 90 yards.
    Moral of the story:
If you think KC leaders can build an airport without botching it as bad as they have... then perhaps more than 30 million tourists will visit KC next year and spend money to help old Sly lower water bills so Old people want have to chose between paying the water bill and having food on the table.
    Go Johnson County International Airport!!!

    1. Desperate to incorporate your outrage over protesters I see. Has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. Your brain works in mysterious ways since you are brainwashed.

  13. 12:20 is spot on. So many protests and protesters these days... if the media didn’t show up no one would know... and still- nothing ever changes because of protests.
They have lost their effectiveness and will confuse to lose the public as there are way too many protests.
It’s kind of like garage sales- they all look a like and everyone is after a few measly bucks.

    1. Another brainwashed douchebag who didn't learn about how democracy works. Protesting is each citizens first amendment right, even if you do not agree with what they are protesting. Right-wingers love that you did not form correct knowledge in your mind, because now they are exploiting you and millions of other citizens, encouraging you to think that protesting is wrong and that it is normal to display blind loyalty to someone despite factual information that should lead you to the contrary.

Anyone who has ever worked on a bid for a public works project or built one after winning a bid knows the real money to be made is in change orders. The design plans will be full of errors because they were in a hurry up mode.

It would be interesting to see a recent civil engineer grad go over the plans and look for the errors now.

I haven't seen such a bunch of craven lies since Philadelphia Electric told people when the Limerick Nuclear Plant were built electricity would be sooooo cheap there would be no need for meters.

Wanna guess if houses in that area have electric meters?

  15. K.C.MO.BANANA REPUBLIC. IT WILL BE A CLOSE VOTE NORTH OF THE RIVER WILL HELP DEFEAT THE NEW SINGLE AIRPORT DESIGN. AND MILINEAL VOTERS. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT EATING IN A AIRPORT. OR SHOPPING. THEY WANT TO GET TO THERE DESTINATION AND EAT,DRINK AND SHOP WHEN THEY ARRIVE.

  16. That was the RETRO ROCKER UNSCIENTIFIC SURVEY.

  17. Burns & Mac, Sly James, and the UNIONS are responsible for this clusterfuck by trying to bully their way into this contract. Because the manner in which they do business would not be able to compete with more ethical bidders, they devised this strategy to circumvent what the citizens really expect out of government. Vote NO. Start over with some integrity. Kudos to the citizenry who got the word out about their attempt to railroad it through.

  18. If KC residents want to know what to expect look no further than SEATAC airport.

    http://www.seattletimes.com/business/boeing-aerospace/cost-of-sea-tacs-two-big-expansion-projects-rises-17-percent/

Same team selected at SEATAC started at $344M in 2013 and now they are requesting funding from $790-812M.

This is what happens when a team without an actual game plan proposes unicorns and rainbows for the cheapest price and then actually starts doing work and realizes it cant meet the budget.

Looking to put the NO in NOvember.

  19. a proposition to remodel terminal B for $100 million, regardless of what else might be desired, would be perfect.

remodeling would be forced to prioritize, such as seurity bathrooms, tsa routing, chairs and tables with plugs, upstairs expansion to connect with starbucks and burger king, redo floor to be brighter, and so on.

$100 million to be spent then stop.

  20. OK so there is an enterprise fund which is supposed to convey a little money to the City instead of Taxes which are not allowed by Federal Government decree. How much is in the enterprise fund and will the new airport provide P.I.L.O.T. funds for the city?

How much is the DEVELOPMENT COST? I have heard estimates from insiders of ONE BILLION Dollars. That is the reason that these guys are foaming at the mouth to get the development rights. They also do not talk about the leasing fees that the restaurants and kiosks will be forced to pay. It again is all about the money and NO ONE WILL TALK about it.

That's some funny stuff right there, thanks for making me lol and a long work week.
