TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! RAGE AGAINST JENEÉ OSTERHELDT NATIONAL ANTHEM SCREED INSPIRES ADVERTISER WAR AGAINST KANSAS CITY STAR!!!

Hoopz has done it again. The latest column in defense of NFL national anthem protest has angered readers to the point of civic action.

But first . . . Here's a look at the highlights of her polemic that's not really worth a click but linked here simply for edification.

JENEÉ OSTERHELDT: Don’t believe in national anthem protests? You don’t believe in the land of the free

Money line . . .

"Each and every person coming for Peters is part of the problem. Few people want to talk about America’s systemic racism, xenophobia or all-around inequity and injustice. But plenty of people want to tune into a game."

Kicker . . .

"I sit the national anthem out, too. And I quit the Pledge of Allegiance once I realized the flag represents a historically broken promise of liberty and justice for all. America is all about divisibility. Quit screaming about the importance of an anthem and a flag while going mute when it comes to black lives, brutality, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia and white supremacy."

Now the fun part . . .

KICK-ASS TKC READERS WARN OF AN UPCOMING ADVERTISER BOYCOTT EFFORT INSPIRED BY THIS SCREED!!!

Here's the word from an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER . . .

"For me, this anti-American, anti-Anthem column is the last straw. Along with the help of two employees who have volunteered their time. I'll be contacting as many KC Star advertisers as possible today and encouraging them to remove their marketing from this paper. I'm already talking to Nebraska Furniture Mart about limiting their next ad buy and taking the Star off their distribution list. They're not as loyal to the newspaper as some people think. I've had at least half a dozen advertisers call me back and they are willing to listen to what I have to say. Expect more news on this because the level of support and unity to end this kind of garbage propaganda is surprising. I'm not the only person working on this and I've been encouraged that more people want to stop business support of propaganda against our flag."

Strong words but the reality is that advertiser boycotts rarely work. Some sponsors and promo recipients of this blog have been contacted by angry dweebs and that usually reveals that the advertising is working and the media outlet is connecting with the community. We're not sure if that's the case here BUT . . . Ad boycotts have a way of scaring corporate douches more than small biz.

Still, we must ask . . .

HAS HOOPZ FINALLY CROSSED THE LINE BY REVEALING HER DISDAIN FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AND THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE???

To be fair, the editorial has certainly created a buzz and now we'll see if it's impact is clickbait gone wrong or thought provoking opinion journalism that gets more people interested in the fading newspaper.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. My problem with her column is balance. This would be fine if there was somebody with the Star who would stand up for the anthem but those voices are missing from their ranks. Steve Rose is the closest thing to a Conservative they've got and he smartly avoids these kind of culture war themes.

If this is how the Star feels about the anthem, they don't have a lot in common with the rest of Kansas City.

This column was one of the stupidest I've read from a Harvard educated person.

  4. The Star doesn't need advertisers.

They are moving to becoming a foundation. A non-profit backed up by the Democratic Party and their patrons. So this guy is wasting his time.
The Star is back to its roots, a one party rag putting out this kind of anti-american content. Good luck with that. This column was only celebrated by the commies on facebook. Where people go to get most of their news.

  5. Her thoughts are her thoughts but not always for publication in a mass media based venue. If she wants to go to the extreme she appears headed then she needs to quit her job at the Star and start her own blog or what ever to carry out what ever war is rattling around in her head.

  8. Fuck the pledge of allegiance. It is smarmy, meaningless feel-good, Hallmark Cards bullshit. It has no legal or official significance whatsoever. It's the right-wing equivalent of holding hands and singing "Kumbaya" (which by the way, I have never seen nor heard of liberal people actually doing) ... that is to say, utterly stupid. It's like when you go to church and you say the prayers because everybody else is saying them. Right ... I don't go to church either. Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels. Go home and thump your bible some more. And fuck your demented belief in a fairytale country that does not exist and probably never did. I sign my pledge of allegiance once every year. It is called Form 1040. Which makes me a greater patriot than most Fortune 500 companies and their overpaid oligarchs.

  12. "Hoopz" stands on the shoulders of local Social Justice Warrior giants like Emmanuel Cleaver, Mary Sanchez and Lewis DoNoGood. Her puddle deep, paper thin intellect, is a one trick pony. A blinkered result of a wet by every rain, blown by every wind base line, that suffered no increase by way of her Affirmative Action, Gender and African American Studies efforts at "Hahvard".

Instinctive and existential knowledge of her insignificance and secretly embarrassed by her lack of legitimate, real world bona fides, she knows she MUST be defined by her enemies in order for any recognition and validation. The resulting victimization claptrap, repeated rote from her Progressive Thought Leaders leaves her readers somnambulistically struck into comas throughout the city.

Her black skin, affords her protection from negative commentary in certain circles here in this Democrat city, but not on this blog.

Here, she is exposed for what she is. A repetitive, churlish, annoying and myopic 'journalist', elevated far beyond her status, by virtue of the color of her skin and the enthusiasm of her pursuit of the Evil Progressive bete noire, white people.

The Progressive transubstantiation of historical and generational white sins by any whites (Only 3% of Americans owned slaves.) into an eternal crucible to be borne by all whites, is the cornerstone of Progressive power and "Hoops" is a willing pawn in the effort to maintain that power and, in turn validate her phony career.

  14. Sadly, hoopz doesn't get it. If these football players were choosing to protest in the street I'd be all for it. If they were going a step further and giving back to their community, even better.

But they're not. As ludricrously overpaid and pampered entertainers, they're making political statements on company time. It's that simple.

As it would in any other industry, the employer ends up paying for it. This is why most employers have rules about it.

It's already cost the NFL 12 percent in ratings. These privileged millionaires are there to entertain, not to lecture. These protests communicate nothing but a massive , halfwitted contempt for their audience.

    ReplyDelete
  17. A good editor would have had better control of that column. The Star needs to hire better journalists, but they'd rather put their money into their ancillary publications like INK.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 6:54, a correction: "Harvard educated person" should be "person who went to school at Harvard."

    ReplyDelete
  19. She can sit down during the National Anthem, not say the pledge of allegiance, complain about her situation in life and shouldn't have to fear being put in jail, assaulted, or otherwise persecuted for her beliefs.

Just like NFL players, she has to consider that she is an entertainer and her popularity is the only thing that keeps her employed. There is no "tenure" among for-profit businesses and if she is no longer popular, her employer is not required to continue to pay her and publish her articles.

Similarly, customers of the NFL and the KC Star have the right to protest. They have the right to seek entertainment from other sources and boycott advertisers who support these organizations. People vote with their pocketbooks and I think the KC Star is on the loosing end of this by giving a mouthpiece to a viewpoint shared by a VERY small number of people who would rather tear something down that build it up (i.e. our country).

  21. Actually, in this case it should be "person who spent some time in the vicinity of buildings on the Harvard campus".
What's so silly about these endless columns and marches and protests is the superficiality of the people involved.
They express great concern about historical events, statues, things that happen in other cities across the country, and some off-the-while comment that someone makes on Twitter.
But when it comes to inequities and issues right in their own back yard...things like homicide rates and the dysfunctional operation of the Jackson County court system, it's way too much trouble to take the time and make the effort needed to learn enough to be able to make any thoughtful intelligent recommendations or suggestions to improve their own community.
    Talk! Talk! Talk!
    March! March! March!
    What a waste of time.
And in this case, as waste of good newspaper space.

I've noticed a strong trend in the opinion section as well as local articles this year making a massive move towards, not just progressive opinions, but aggressively anti-American progressive letters and opinion articles. The Star also took over my local County rag and began churning out the same overly-progressive communist garbage. It made my socialist neighbors happy and made me drop the Star and my local paper. Ironically, I'm the demo the star needs to stick around. Early 40's with just enough income to spend on their subscription and enough time to read a paper over coffee in the morning; which I enjoy doing. And they're doing their best to drive people like me away.

Now she actually believes her own bullshit and expects everyone else to continue to pander to her baiting.

Until we actually require these folks to step up to the plate and meet the same standards required of those who are not princesses we will continue to defend the need for basic human expectations. Her futile attempts to garner attention, only express an infantile seed of self-hatred which has been carefully nourished by the Liberal Socialists steering her neurotic path in life.

The product of an absentee black male and white mother who raised her, Jenee of course identifies with the 50-percent of her DNA which put in a few minutes of work before hitting the road. A light-skinned biracial woman is given no crutch by society if she identifies as white, but choose to identify as black and the world is your oyster. As a young white woman with limited journalistic skills, Jenee blends in and falls through the cracks of mediocrity. But, as a young black woman eager to accept the Liberal Socialist indoctrination protocols, Jenee can be a somebody!

The brave Americans who gave their lives defending our nation -- and the millions who served and lived -- were defending the nationits ideal of equality and justice and its Constitution -- not a colorful clothe or a recycled British bar song. Real American Exceptionalism is our ideals, not mere symbols.

It is only from a position of white privilege that we can fail to understand ... white privilege. Think racism is over? In 2009, a black Harvard professor who had committed no crime was dragged in handcuffs from his own front porch by an angry white cop -- and the African-American President of the United States who (quite correctly) said that was unacceptable police behavior was forced to hold a "beer summit" on the White House lawn, so offended were the white folks that even the President might criticize the white police power that underpins racism!

Young black men are gunned down -- ON VIDEO -- and no cop ever gets convicted. Even a 12 year old kid playing with a plastic gun in a park! A young white guy gets beaten in Independence and that cop goes to prison. Equal justice? BS.

  87. Talk about advertising...here's the t-shirt you're going to see
supporters of the first amendment and human rights wearing:

    We march...y'all get mad.
    We sit down...y'all get mad.
    We speak up...y'all get mad.
    We die...ya'll silent.

This is the crux of the matter. If you attack those who protest
the anthem with more passion than you protest the inequality
that costs people lives, you ARE a racist; you are the problem.

As a season ticket holder, I'm researching the basis for a suit against the Chiefs that seeks reimbursement from management having allowed product tampering.

I bought (and have renewed annually) an entertainment product, which Chiefs have provided wonderfully until now. Their investment in venue and attention to detail has been focused entirely on the entertainment product. More so, their ongoing choices of honorees and exhibits such as Veterans and Air Force flyovers has been incorporated into the Chiefs product. More than branding, those are features.

Now comes an employee that is adding a new feature to the product. He is seemingly acting unilaterally and not with forethought or approval by management. The feature is not reasonably considered a natural evolution of ongoing improvements. Contrarily, it juxtaposes itself against the experience that I decided to purchase for myself and my family at renewal time.

Chiefs did not advertise this new product feature or service disruption, thereby preventing me from properly valuing the price. Chiefs also did not take reasonable action to prevent or limit my pre-adolescent children's exposure to social standards that I as a parent believe negatively affects them at this stage of their maturation.

I am not an attorney, nor have I spoke with one. I would expect this argument applies universally against all NFL franchises. A business cannot ignore control over the product it markets, simply because its employees are paid 10 times, 100 times, or 1000 times more than the average customer.
