SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY, MO SUFFERS EPIC STOLEN CAR CRIME SPREE 2017!!!

The murder rate isn't the only bit of crime data spiraling out of control, a new report shows a troubling rise in car theft.

To wit . . .

KCMO CONFRONTS AN UPTICK IN CAR THEFTS AS CRIME RAMPS UP OVERALL!!!

We've talked about the rise in all kinds of property crime but this big ticket theft is important because it's not just smash and grab crooks but also an uptick in scams from con artists using confidence scams to trick people into handing over their cars. For instance, after Summer storms there were at least a dozen people in Midtown who gave their cars over to scam dent removal service, never to see their vehicles again.

Here's more proof:

Fox4: Police say since the beginning of the year, more than 2,000 vehicles in the metro have been reported as stolen

Deets:

Just in the past two weeks, 98 vehicles in Kansas City have been reported as stolen. Popular areas targeted include Westport, the Plaza and the River Market.

According to KCPD's monthly crime summary, 2,025 vehicle thefts have been reported since the beginning of 2017 --that's 326 more thefts from the same period of time last year.

You've been warned . . .

  1. Here's what you're missing Tony. It's not just the residents who are in trouble, it's the businesses that will face a harder proposition in attracting visitors who don't want to endure the crime. Staying out in the suburbs becomes a nicer proposition if you don't want to get your car stolen.

    1. Some people deserve it, do you know how many folks just don't lock their doors. Look around and there are some people who still leave their keys in the car or leave their cars running. I don't condone crime but I also don't condone being a target.

    2. KCMO should stop allowing tow trucks to steal cars. That's a big part of this crime wave.

    3. ^^^ You mean it's organized. Obviously. And it's hood rats, and a lot of confidence scams with car repair.

    1. Why do you want to deny that there's crime in Kansas City, MO. This isn't just TKC who says so. It's KCPD statistics and Fox 4KC reporting the news today. I get it that you might have a problem with the blog but saying that there isn't any crime in Midtown or the east side makes you look stupid.

  6. I drive a 2001 minivan, windows don't work. Bumpers are both shot. Sounds like a machine gun (and not in a good way) when you start it up.

I'm not worried about someone stealing my car. I do still carry full coverage for a reason.

  7. I would suggest that the increase in KC tourism, 240 million last year according to city hall, has directly led to the increase in stolen cars. These tourists need something to get them to the trolley, or P&L or drive around aimlessly looking for the downtown convention hotel so they steal cars. They fly out of KC and leave the vehicles in long term parking where they will never be found. Just my opinion.

  12. 4:43, the problem is, the thief couldn't drive it away, he'd have to carry it. Not many want to work that hard.

  13. We need to cut back the KCPD budget and number of officers even more. That should solve it.

When I park in a parking lot I'm one of those that park way out there, I don't want any door dings. You'd be surprised how many people park close to you even when I'm parked way out there.

Stupid people! Don't park next to me.
