NEWSFLASH: CONSERVATIVES STILL HATE THE KANSAS CITY STAR!!!

I've always thought their bias skewed toward ELITISM over any political ideology and during the last election they backed a bunch of GOP candidates . . . Still, here's a really good column from Kansas right-wingers. Checkit:

Star Editorial Board Just as Clown Car Lefty as Always - The Sentinel

Remember those few heady moments when people with common sense thought the Kansas City Star's editorial board might move ever-so-slightly right? The paper canned some of its most viscous leftists and moved the editorial writers disguised as reporters to the opinion page. Then the Star hired a new editorial board vice president, Colleen McCain Nelson.

Good one. ("Good," as in, stupid)

  2. Are Star columnists really viscous? Do they actually have a thick, sticky fluid consistency between solid and liquid?

She writes like you Tony; doesn't actually know the meanings of words.

  3. ^^^ Reads Tony's blog all day long. Sniffing the farts.

  4. Amen. The Star management doesn't understand basic math. Republicans are half of their potential readership but many Republican quit reading the paper because of the liberal bias. Produce a politically balanced paper with an equal number of writers both parties and you'll increase your readership. The Star would rather fire employees and eventually perish than do that.

  6. It's not a very informative or well written article, but it does make the point that the Star, which once promised to shift a bit to the right, has instead lurched left. Way left. Every article that can be spun to fit a predetermined narrative, is spun. Articles imported from other news outlets (which generally appear on page 2, which I call the Propaganda Page) are TDS inspired hallucinations and sometimes simply fabrications. Stories that should be news but do not reflect well on the Star's Democratic Party controllers (e.g. the Senator Bob Menendez trial) are simply ignored.

It does make me wonder what has gone on behind the scenes to turn the earlier promise into the present train wreck. Maybe the publisher realizes there is no hope for the continuing existence of this rag, and is raising a middle finger to the world as the ship sinks.

Whatever. It's no way to run a business, but it might be an OK method to make willing martyrs of the Editorial Board, and unwilling martyrs of the unfortunate rest of the work force.

  11. I quit reading the star 20 years ago. I wouldn't buy it if it was 1 cent. A bunch of bias liberals.

  12. Can anyone give an example about what is "lefty" about the Star? I see everyone here saying Sly is a "liberal" and the Star under Colleen has seemed to cut him off at every pass? Is advocating for good, transparent gov't "lefty" because thats really all the editorial board has been on since she got here.

I think the editorial board has been much less identity politics and just what is and isnt good gov't...like an editorial board should be.

  17. The Star lost the war about 30 years ago. They decided that anything that happened south of the Plaza, north of the river, or in Kansas wasn't really local news. Readers in the suburbs started abandoning The Star then. Well folks, all those places are where the money is. So The Star can sell their papers downtown and in midtown, but nobody else cares. They are just not going to purchase a defective product that isn't worth the money. We can all get the AP wire and the NY Times on line. Why would we pay The Star for the same stuff? Does anybody down there really get it? I remember as a kid coming home from church on Sunday and spending the whole afternoon reading the paper. Now it takes an hour -- maybe, if I get distracted by something else too. It is just not a good product.
