Fox4: Police handed out free gun locks Tuesday at 31st Street and Prospect Avenue as part of campaign to reduce unintentional shootings involving children.

Only about half a dozen people turned out for the safety seminar, but being that it took place during the work day in a working class neighborhood, organizers say if they can prevent just one shooting, they've been successful.

According to the "Not An Accident" index there have been six shootings so far this year by children in the Kansas City area, including one in Lawrence, Kan., and one in St. Joseph, Mo.

  7. Why don't they just build more police stations? That was what the local crackhead clergy was suggesting. That was intended to curb crime substantially. I guess they were wrong... again. God is not real.

  9. A work day in a working class neighborhood? Haha hahaha. Good one! Working at what? Getting up at noon to sit on the porch and get high? Decide who they're going to carjack? Wait for the EBT card to get recharged? Can't believe you would actually write that.

  11. People I assume were understandably wary to report to a police handout of gun equipment in a city and state where there is no requirement to register your firearm. Taking one would just be advertising to KCPD that you have a weapon.

Masterlock makes a trigger lock: $15.

Probably not worth it just to save a few bucks.

  12. I sold my free trigger lock on craigslist for 20 bucks.
