After a Summer dedicated to touting the "home team" here's the anti-climax and a very real chance for single-terminal proponents to destroy one of this town's best resources. Checkit:
Kansas City Voters Will Be Asked Whether To Build A New Terminal At KCI In November
Voters in Kansas City, Missouri, will decide in November whether the city should construct a new single terminal at Kansas City International Airport. The question remains, at least for now, who would build that terminal if voters approve. The Kansas City Council on Thursday unanimously approved language for the measure - the last possible day before the deadline for ballot language.
VOTE NO!
ReplyDeleteOMG we'll be left behind without a new airport!
ReplyDeleteJust put in some phone chargers and a damn Starbucks vending machine.
ReplyDeleteAnd a smashed avocado on toast dispenser!
ReplyDeleteA baby kale and almond butter bar!
ReplyDeletePlant-Based Burger Bar
ReplyDeleteHELLO! There is NO PRIVATE FINANCING involved with any of these proposals.
ReplyDeleteSome bidders simply pulled a Bait & Switch -- calling something Private Financing" to fool the public, then relying on a PUBLIC entity to actually issue the bonds. Still more expensive than simple airport bonds, but, hey, it worked! And it's only money, right?
None of us are surprised by that Phil, now we just gotta hope sLIE doesn't call the Russians to rig the vote!!!
ReplyDeleteNot much chance of that, @6:11pm.
ReplyDeleteThe Russians are pretty savvy professionals at the cyber game and they'd likely walk right by the guy with the big floral bow tie thinking that he was a circus clown.
This whole airport fiasco has been incompetence on steroids, including the performance of the self- appointed "home town team".
The whole metro is laughing as is the airport construction industry nationwide.
Guess it takes more than endless PR, spin, and breathless claims to even try to be a real big league city.
Amateur night on the plains.
no.....yes on sensible remodel.
ReplyDeleteKansas City North Residence Likes the convenience of airport as with the three terminals,AND many of the Construction workers that would work on the airport live outside the city limits. They can't vote for it.
ReplyDeleteCurious: How many Kansans use the 3rd rate airport? If users could all vote, what would we say? Remember most Kansans became Kansan fleeing Garbageville. Its shit schools. Its crooked mayors and carwashes. I rather like the easy in-and-out. Wish we had one in JoCo tho. Hate to set foot in Misery except when dumping trash!
ReplyDeleteThe proponents of a new airport are always talking about the jobs that will be created. Really? There will be TEMPORARY jobs during construction, the no NEW jobs will happen, either inside or outside the airport. Let's see some numbers backed up with research on all these new jobs that will supposedly appear.
ReplyDeleteOh, and please vote NO on a new airport. All we need is some common sense upgrades.
No. No. No. It is still the best airport in the country
ReplyDeleteWhat a con job.
ReplyDeleteRemodel in stages and sensibly, while keeping multiple terminals. It's way past time to get a rolling roof on Arrowhead. The enclosed stadium could be a sand volleyball venue, a rain protected concert arena, and more. Wet, muddy, and frozen fields are macho and kinda old school cool. But, adding more options for KC entertainments is a good bet.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard Burns and Mac were responsible for the ugly beige divider look of post 9/11 terminal, No wonder they had to try the fix to win. They make the eyesore then want to be the antidote to clean it up. Airport remodel for 200 million behind door number two.
ReplyDeleteFollow Sly and the fix, create more work for the lawyer class as lawsuits will be likely. Nice to see subpoena and discovery at work with Sly and others on the receiving end of visibility. How hard would it be to establish the details of various parties involved in the fix. Sounds like a winnable case against the City and Mayor Bullhorn.
ReplyDeleteThis brilliance was brought to you by the Rockhurst mafia. Half of who went into witness protection program after Mayor Bullhorn lost the case in public court of opinion. They are plotting and will be back soon.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget besides the disposable Mayor the city manager was a party to this mess too.

Does anyone believe for a moment that the Airlines will not service the Kansas City Metro if we don't build a new terminal?
ReplyDeleteAirlines are in business to make money, they make money by selling tickets, if people want to fly on an airline they will buy those tickets, and the airlines will be here to sell those tickets as long as a sufficient number of sales can be made to justify the costs of servicing the existing KCI Airport.
The existing Airport is adequate to handle anything they will be flying in the foreseeable future, hell, remember that it handled L-1011s just fine back when they were being flown, and it's unlikely that anything that big will be in the air again soon.
Fire the current Aviation Department Leadership and install new Managers with instructions and funds to catch up the deliberately delayed maintenance, and let out bids for a new Update and Remodel, with B&McD completely excluded from the bidding process.
Then request that the State Attorney General investigate the past fiasco, paying special attention to B&McD involvement, and each City Officeholder and former Employee's activities for possible corrupt practices!
Oh, and VOTE NO ON ANY AIRPORT REDESIGN IN NOVEMBER!!
Biggest problem @8:49? The people that run the Aviation Department are appointed, not elected, and for darn sure, the ones doing the appointing have directed all of the rigamarole currently happening at the airport: bathrooms out of service, dirty waiting areas, police harassment at curbside (when it used to be easy-come easy-go), even the 12-14 hour "water main" shut down even though there was water supply from the opposite end of that main (looped configuration).
ReplyDeleteTime for a new Mayor to end the insider fix of democrat slop
ReplyDeletePut in a no pork person not interested in carrying water for fixes of the usual suspects
ReplyDeleteElon musk for president and parties of extremes be damned
ReplyDeleteOh we can wish
ReplyDeleteAny company that has not been major backer of chamber is allowed to do work, have to break the gravy train of the fixers
ReplyDeleteWe don't want local control, we want remote control ala Elon

ReplyDeleteWe know Elon was not native born, but we are making a point, real innovation or amateur local pork carve ups for inside fixers who don't get the near term futures very well but waste flagrantly while they pretend
