TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! SCATHING U.S. DOT AUDIT REVEALS MANY DEFICIENCIES IN KANSAS CITY STREETCAR AUTHORITY MANAGEMENT OF TOY TRAIN!!!

Despite the constant hype, the Kansas City streetcar FAILS to live up to several requirements for Federal funding according to the latest review performed for the U.S. Department of Transportation - Federal Transit Administration Region 7.

To wit . . .

THANKS TO KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS FOR SHARING THIS SCATHING REPORT THAT REVEALS THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR OPERATING IN A FAULTY AND SECRETIVE MANNER ON MANY COUNTS!!!

But first . . .

As always our blog community offers the FIRST WORD about the consequences of this report . . .

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS TELL US:"The city is incompetent at managing the streetcar. The feds can make the city pay back all the federal funding. This isn't just a streetcar issue. They have the same issues with grant money from the feds for road construction . . ."

Now let's review the DOX . . .

CHECK THE EXCLUSIVE DOX FOR YOURSELF . . . HERE'S THE FISCAL YEAR 2017 TRIENNIAL REVIEW FEATURING SOME HORRIBLE DEFICIENCIES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR!!!

We invite our readers to help us review in the comments, but, we believe the best way to start is to focus on the places where the Streetcar Authority didn't live up to it's agreements . . . Check the quick guide to these Kansas City Toy Train failures:

The most glaring highlights include but aren't limited to:

- Lack of required cost/price analysis for the procurement of new vehicles for the fleet.

- Out of date fleet management plans.

- Late vehicle preventive maintenance.

Like it or not, the FAIL of the toy train in so many respects shows us constant cheerleading and hype won't help Kansas City secure more federal funds but instead overlooks the management duties of this organization that has mostly worked to subvert local elections and pursue a costly downtown-focused development agenda at the expense of the rest of this town . . .

Local news hasn't provided any real coverage of this audit so we THANK OUR BLOG COMMUNITY FOR OFFERING THESE DEETS FIRST and for all of Kansas City to see how the streetcar is FAILS to live up to the expectation of its patrons.

You decide . . .

  1. After the audit in 2015, there was some house cleaning for the streetcar authority. I hope this will inspire city hall to keep a closer watch of how this organization runs. They they clearly haven't been minding the store.

    1. Well, this does explain all of the breakdowns. If KC can't keep up the trains we have now, why should we get more?

    2. ^^^ It's a gravy train, that's why. It's not about actually moving the public and providing transportation. It's about selling more condos and lofts.

  2. At this rate, we'll just have to keep buying more trollies so that we can run them into the ground and claim it's because of "high demand" KC is horrible at doing maintenance. Just look at our streets. I guess the streetcar isn't any exception for horrible KC management.

  3. Oh, I bet this is a hint of a TooT LooT that is going to be charging a fee. Maybe only those riders with a validated receipt will ride one loop FREE, like parking is FREE for one hour at the downtown library.

    Bye, FREE rides!

  4. No surprise. Now if the Feds would only audit the Water Dept.

  5. The city incompetent? No way.

  7. They are good at hype and stink at running a trolley. Let's hope the Feds don't waste more of our money on streetcar grants in the future.

  8. In adequate equipment reconds. A rampant city trait. Look at the water dept- worst and often non-existent equipment records let alone maintenance. Hard behavior to change. Starts at top management.

  9. "Lack of required cost/price analysis for the procurement of new vehicles for the fleet."

The city's contracting department must really suck. If they're looking for a former federal contracting officer who'll hire on at a high consulting rate, I know where they can find one.

  10. I don't know which is worse. A city that doesn't take care of it's toys or a Federal government that has so many non productive bureaucrats that they actually pay folks to go around dinging cities over oil changes on vehicles. No matter, you are paying for all of it. Your tax dollars at work.

  11. Last week at height of tourist season two of the four units were down with problems, routinely entire system is paralyzed with a car on the tracks

  14. MY GIGANTIC BAGS OF STREETCAR MONEY WERE TWENTY MINUTES LATE LAST WEEK, IS THAT ON THE REPORT? I HAD TO LIGHT MY CIGAR WITH A $50 BILL INSTEAD OF THE USUAL $100 BILL! DISGRACEFUL! SOMEBODY SHOULD CALL THE FBI.

  15. And how are we supposed to be surprised by this?

Remember, if we can somehow force the City to move the Streetcar turn presently on Fifth Street in the City Market due North seven or eight blocks, the problem solves itself on the first trip.

  16. Those amateurs trying to run it should be booted out and KCATA should take over the operation.

  17. ^^^ We need change. This might not be a bad idea.

  18. Agree but first change their leader

  19. We spent a $160 million dollars on toy train and they can't afford to maintain it, that's awesome! Yes it cost $160 mil for 2.2 miles and no money or competent people to take care of it. I can't wait for the $224 million dollar 3.7 mile extension to get built! #we'refucked

  21. Can't manage a 2 mile system , how do they think they could add another 3 miles and do better ?

  22. Most of the members on the Council live paycheck to paycheck and do not understand what a good investment is. I would guarantee you this... the Council members would never vote for the Streetcar extension of they fell in the taxing district.
I have been a lifelong Democrat until I moved to KCMO 7 years ago. The waste and mismanagement of public funds in KCMO amazes me.
Ultimately, the Trump administration will never support this Streetcar expansion for many reasons and we will never see this expansion take place.

  23. I am a lifelong Democrat and moved to KCMO 7 years ago. I am amazed at the level of mismanagement and wast of tax revenue by the Council. The City Manager says he is just the "COO" and passes the buck for bad decisions to those who are making them.
Taxing Residential properties along the Streetcar route makes no sense and is truly unfair.
Maybe an additional investment in the 3rd District is the answer. How about paving the streets of the Jazz District with GOLD? This may be a way to get more folks down to this area.
At the end of the day, I will do everything within my power to convince the Trump Administration to not support this expansion.
    Cheers.

  24. The Feds should pull out of this venture. Trump with all of his deficiencies will certainly not reward this City's incompetence.

  25. And they have a marketing dept. for a 2 mile streetcar line . Anything to give a job to waste more money . See who has the job .
