In a vote that was tarnished by snail-mail problems and allegations of voter suppression . . . Here's the final Friday decision by way of a handful of voters making a decision on HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS worth of new taxes:
KC Biz Journal: A vote to extend the Kansas City Streetcar south passed on Friday. A total of 3,642 voters cast their ballots in the mail-in election. Of that, 2,458 voted in favor of the extension, and 1,048 voted against it.
The outcome was expected given the tiny swath of voters selected to vote following a defeat of this same line back in 2014.
There are still a few more hurdles for the streetcar extension to overcome . . . And so far there's no sign of federal funding from the Trump administration.
Yet, this is a win for toy train enthusiasts nevertheless.
Developing . . .
And this is how Kansas City went bankrupt.
ReplyDeletewrong. actually a great day Kansas City and a sign that our voters support public transit.
Delete^^^^ Wrong again, The death rattle for the Plaza.
DeleteWhy announce it on Friday like a firing? That seems kind of suspicious. There are a lot of questions about this ballot and the first one seems to be all the people who requested to vote but were denied.
ReplyDeleteRigged vote. Time to get the attorney general involved
ReplyDelete3:20 sLIE is that you again?
ReplyDeleteA victory in a rigged election is like a victory in a shootout when one guy doesn't have a gun.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% Hyperblogal
ReplyDelete3:20, if voters really support public transit, they wouldn't need a $225 million streetcar extension when we already have buses on that same route.
ReplyDeleteThere are at least 2,458 white people in Kansas City very happy tonight that in four years they won't have to take a bus with people of color.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'd call the FBI about your "rigged election" and see how fucking hard they laugh.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt the winning side had a difficult time voting in this one.
ReplyDeleteLMAO
Really sad that KC keeps opening up the door to this kind of malfeasance. Seems like it undermines progress and could lead to more election fraud in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for somebody to sue !
ReplyDeleteHillary 2020!
ReplyDeleteElection fraud effective today? KC has been fixing elections since the 30s. It wasn't a vote, it was a farce.
ReplyDeleteWhy wasn't there a citywide election? If the margin was 70%, even among the small sample I thin that means there is at least some support for it. I think it could've won citywide. At least doing it that way would avoid some of the suspicion that people have that the vote isn't clean.
ReplyDelete^^^ There wasn't a city wide election because they would have lost. They only do it this way to avoid a real vote.
ReplyDeleteOnly 2,458 to approve 200 million in more spending. That's not really democracy, is it?
ReplyDeleteThere will be no federal funding for the toy train The money is going to the wall at the border.Transportation money will not go to a tourist roller coaster. If it was real transportation from Union Station to Lee's Summit or blue Springs to Lone, jack, maby. . .
ReplyDelete^^^ +1 - As usual, retro has it right. The plan is a nightmare. If Sly pushes through on it, he should be recalled.
ReplyDelete6:13: When it was put to a city-wide vote, it failed 70-30. That's the reason for this fraud.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone noticed that the streetcar map stops at Campbell not at Harrison? Looks like they didn't want to go to "Troost" the racial divide with it, so the black community and the business on Troost are off the hook when it comes to paying for it.
When everyone else is riding for free, the people in the trolley tax district who voted for this or abstained from voting are going to be screaming when they have to pay.
^^^ +1
ReplyDeleteAnother transit scam.
Okay, now comes the crunch! In every case where the streetcar technology that "We" chose has been tried on inclines over 6.5% it has failed. The only metro areas that have used it successfully are relatively flat. much more than KC is! Now we're going to "suddenly discover" that our streetcars can't handle the hill between Liberty Memorial and Crown Center, and we're going to have to tear it all out and replace all the equipment with something more suitable! Given KC's record of dumping more and more taxes into "Money Pits", (City Market, Riverfront Park, The Glover Plan, 18th & Vine, The P&L Drunk Tank, 63rd Street Redevelopment, The GottaHavaNewAirport and so on), how long before The Joke On Oak floats a bond issue with all its attendant rake-offs and "little white envelopes" on official desks?
ReplyDeleteOh well that's good since Main Street is only a 2% grade!
ReplyDeleteIt was a vote on whether to study the issue, not whether to have a streetcar expansion. That's why I voted in favor. On Tuesday, 8 August, we had a regular-ballot vote on spending and taxing for the streetcar expansion despite the study not having been begun. I voted against.
