PETITION TO CLEANUP CLAY COUNTY AMID KANSAS CITY NORTHLAND SLAP-FIGHTING!!!

Amid ongoing political drama, check this honest to goodness grassroots movement hoping to demand local goverment accountability.

Here's the word . . .

Filed the necessary paperwork with the state auditor’s office to begin the petition audit process for the entire Clay County government. We now have 1 year to collect 5,590 signatures. The more the better!

The petition estimates the cost of the audit at $100,000 to $150,000, given the cost of the audits for political subdivisions of similar size and function to Clay County. The county will be responsible for paying the cost of the audit whatever it may be.

I don’t expect the audit process to be fun for the county, but it is essential to make sure that our county is following proper procedures and state statutes.

A few examples of our concerns are: associate commissioners removed the county clerk as the custodian or records. County property purchased with Federal grant money has gone missing. Our associate commissioners voted to allow staff to sign off on invoices after Presiding Commissioner Nolte questioned why invoices were coming to him redacted. An assistant county administrator and administrative staffer have been charged with tampering with a public document. Has anything else been tampered with? Now, we hear that our associate commissioners are trying to remove some of the responsibilities of the county auditor.

In light of the growing concerns among the citizens of Clay County about the performance of our county government, I believe it is in the best interest of the citizens of the county to have this audit performed.

  1. Great idea! Start with this ballot measure the county put on for Children's Services? Synergy has contributed $105,000 to the campaign. This is about 95% of the money raised. They are spending it on political hacks south of the river. How can a nonprofit use tax deductible dollars to fund a campaign? I have always contributed to Synergy -- NO MORE. Which commissioner is behind this? Who is getting paid off? Where will the tax dollars go if voters approve it?

  2. The "old northland" aka Anita Gorman is behind this.

  3. 8:10 - I don't care who is behind it. Quite a few Northlanders are tired of the embarassment that is going on in Liberty. Makes people wonder why? This will tell us why.

  4. Yeah, either clean up the Liberty Mafia mess or split the county north-south so the disenfranchised western half can get some services.

  5. Where did Synergy get $105k? Or, is this a way for wealthy contributors to hide their political contributions as charity and get a tax write off? Disgusting...

  6. Fact: Jackson County, MO, passed a Children's Services Tax in August 2016. This and current election are authorized by State Statute.
My information is that all three Clay Commissioners approved placing this issue on the ballot.

There has been dissension on the Commission for several years that has been almost exclusively caused by developers trying to control Clay County by hook or by crook. They have previously had control and have lost control in the last several years. Some of them have flagrant criminal activity in their background. Many millions of dollars in TIF's and other incentives are at stake. The usual suspect consultants have been heavily involved.

Having lost elections, their strategy has been to cause so much trouble that it will "all burn down." When you are viciously attacked by dis-honest and unscrupulous people, do not expect people to not fight back. Eventually the truth will out.

  7. Sounds like this Children's Tax needs to go down. Synergy needs to be investigated.

  8. Jackson County is contiguous.

  9. I think helping children is great....the problem is that the Commissioners appoint the over-sight board....that is just another layer of corruption.

  10. Vote NO on this surprise issue supporting Children's Services. There are so many duplicate services for children, and we don't need a "minor tax" (their words) to expand programs. We Clay Countians never heard of this before. Vote NO, please.

  12. @12:34 sure sounds like a apologist for the Commission, n'est pas?

If "Developers" are a problem, there's an easy way to solve it, place a MORATORIUM ON 'TIF' GRANTS FOR 10 YEARS! This will immediately drive away the Developers, who will no longer want to "Build In Order To Borrow" in Clay County.

If something makes economic sense, it will still be built without TIF, the only downside will be a reduction in income for Commissioners, but who gives a ..., about that? Maybe it'll spur them to leave the Political Life and get their first job.
