Coach's Will Rebuild After Repeated South Kansas City Flooding: Fool's Errand?!?!

We talked about this previously but this excellent report confirms it . . . Given that they're in a low-lying floodplain . . . Feel free to offer bloggy advice:

In spite of devastating setbacks, Coach's Bar and Grill will rebuild

Kansas City, MO - The owners of Coach's Bar and Grill say they have no intention of closing after last week's record flood. The flood marked the sixth time the south side dining and drinking establishment has been under water, and this time was the worst.

  1. The Flood Insurance on this place should be pretty reasonable.

  2. Why would you turn right around and build in this area again? Why would the city allow building permits in this area, it's been flooding for years, and it will again. But remember if you hear the area has a flood warning, DON'T GET IN YOUR CAR AND GO THERE!

  3. Stupid, Stupid a thousand times. It is time to not to rebuild 2 people almost got killed this time. It will flood again. The city should not issue any building permits. Insurance companies will not issue any insurance on those buildings for a reason.

  5. The business has real and definable "Blue Sky". It prints money by way of loyal customers, who are like a family and come for the good food, cold beer and bonhomie.

The inability to acquire Flood Insurance is an anticipated cost of doing business, or should be anticipated by any savvy business owner, worth his/her salt. Weighing out the pros and cons is a subjective decision here, based not only on profit, but on the relationships that have been built over the years with customer/friends/employees who love the place like a second home.

It has been by privilege to have worked there for many years, as a contractor at the shopping center and for Mike, Brian and Chris. Their motivations for reopening have every bit as much to do with maintaining employment for people they love, maintaining friendships with customers they love and continuing the legacy of Mike Darby's life.

God bless Coaches and all the people who love Coaches.
