Boulevard Brewery Beer Garden Battles Against Kansas City Sacred Heart Church

Kansas City boozing still confronts Westside neighborhood opposition as this town's favorite brewer seeks more parking spaces at the expense of nearby Sacred Heart Church.

Here's a few more fun facts . . .

- A recent memo from the Brewery claims support from the Church to a Cit Hall planning commission for a zoning variance. THAT MEMO IS INCORRECT. Several members of the faith community don't want the beer garden in the Church backyard.

- There is a meeting tomorrow at Blvd. at 5:30 where there the company will make their pitch to nearby residents who disagree with the plan.

- A coalition of Westside residents and Westside Sacred Heart leaders have organized their opposition to the expansion and infringement of the neighborhood of the rapidly expanding company.

To fair, Blvd deserves their chance to make a pitch to the company but the current Downtown gentrification trend has seen biz show little regard to residents who have longstanding connections to their community.

  1. If Sacred Heart is a Catholic church, then why the fuss? A beer garden next door sounds like divine intervention to the Pope's posse.

  4. Has the Kansas City Atheist Coalition been consulted on this?

That would be the first step, because as atheists will tell you they are smarter and more moral than the average person.

Remember, they carry ASK AN ATHEIST signs.

All you have to do is...whistle.

  10. Re-Zoning is my only issue. If the westside has to rezone for this "beer garden" to happen, then no, they need to rethink their design and plan. Re-zoning will open up the FLOOD GATES for developers, and this "beer garden" will be the blue print to rapidly take over the westside neighborhood even faster than it has been already!
