KANSAS CITY STORM NIGHT RUCKUS!!!

Quick glimpse of the GOLD STANDARD in Kansas City discourse that takes on a variety of local topics and the ongoing debate betwixt corporate welfare and neighborhood concerns..

Here's the latest episode:

"Mike Shanin interviews Burns & McDonnell CEO Ray Kowalik about the private financing proposal for a single terminal KCI. Mary Anne Murray Simons, Woody Cozad, Laura McConwell and Patrick McInerney discuss recent Kansas revenue numbers which exceeded projections, the potential for Josh Hawley to enter the Missouri senate race against Claire McCaskill and the veto of funding for a UMKC Arts Campus."

Comments

  1. The airport conversation is too clouded by critics. We need to ask residents and taxpayers what they want. The airport belong to the people of KC, and news wants to shut them out of this decision.

    All spin, all the time.

    That's Kansas City for you.

A town of consultants and pundits, but nobody actually does anything.

  3. Shanin has to have him on because Burns & Mac contribute to KCPT. You might think this is public TV but it is just another way the elite of KC control the narrative. Do we ever have city neighborhood people on Ruckus or Kansas City Week in Review. I would say they would have a real different narrative of lack of KC city services, crime, high water bills and taxes. They would hate the downtown hotel and single terminal airport.

  4. Why would Mike Shanon interview the CEO from Buttfuck & McDouche?

  5. Agree with the comment that this is just advertising for Burns and McDonnell. They are sponsors of KCPT and that should have been disclosed. Possible FCC report pending.

  8. Ray Kowalik of Lee's Summit, CEO of BurnsMcD, as is the case with nearly all BurnsMcD employees, does not live in KCMO.

Kowalik will not even get to vote on the airport terminal proposal because he's a non-resident.

Burns and McD was unable to finance their own recent headquarters expansion, yet they think it's perfectly fitting that they be allowed to finance the KCMO terminal proposal. WTF? Why did the city of KCMO actually finance their HQ expansion?

Burns and McD throwing a few thousand dollars toward crooked Mayor Sly and a few Council members in exchange for millions upon millions of dollars in annual revenue from the city of KCMO? Quite an exorbitant return on investment!

Please notice how they've shifted their PR campaign for the single-terminal, now extolling the virtues of job creation for the local economy. So, they're tacitly admitting that KC doesn't really require a new single-terminal, but we might as well build one to create jobs and keep up appearances. It's like a deodorant commercial! They're trying to shame KCMO residents into raising the price for everything related to flying out of KCI (tickets, food/drink, parking, merchandise) so as not to be embarrassed by our airport.

I'll consider supporting a new single-terminal just as soon as Ray Kowalik and a majority of Burns McD employees become residents of KCMO.

  9. People will look back on the new airport as the turning point when KC totally went down hill. The amount the B&M stands to profit is obscene and KCMO will be stuck with the bill forever.
