KANSAS CITY POLICE D-DAY: ACTIVISTS, NEWSIES, PROTESTERS, AND CIVIC LEADERS PREP FOR KANSAS CITY TOP COP COMMUNITY MEETING COMING SOON!!!

A cornucopia of locals will coalesce and cheer for their favorite contender and a new regime.

Here's the word from one of our favorite community news outlets:

Northeast News encourages locals to "attend the candidates’ forum this Thursday night at Police Headquarters and submit questions to your potential new Police Chief. Our favorite is Major Rick Smith, who is familiar with all levels of the department and has command experience that includes two patrol bureaus as well as the city’s NoVA project. The forum will be this Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Community Room at Police Headquarters downtown. Per a Department directive, questions must be received prior to the meeting. Questions may be emailed to BOPC Secretary David Kenner at dkenner@levycraig.com or BOPC President Leland Shurin at LShurin@sls-law.com."

  1. Rick Smith is by far the most qualified candidate and a good man for the job.

  2. Whoever is chosen isn't going to make a bit of difference unless elected officials in KCMO make public safety the top priority it deserves, serious competent people instead of hacks are appointed to the Police Board, and, most importantly, there is some serious leadership on the east side to encourage cooperation with the police and to condemn the kinds of behavior and irresponsibility that drives most of the crime and violence.
NONE of that will take place.
So double the millions wasted on fake ineffective totally unaccountable nonprofits, bring in some new out-of-town academics, have a few more dog-and-pony-show town hall meetings, and in a few years, you can pay for consultants to study the KCPD organization and report that it's top-heavy, uses its resources poorly, and is short the number of officers it needs, just like the recent report did.
A perpetual motion machine of poor priorities, incompetence, and make-believe.
And the violence making KCMO the 6th most dangerous city in the entire country will continue.

  3. KC had a chance to get out of KC and find a qualified chief. Not only did they not work to recruit the best candidates, they went the budget barn route. Kind of sad for a city with the issues KC needs to deal with. I just hope KC will do something to keep its thugs inside the city limits. Gets old cleaning up the shit because city leadership makes these kinds of decisions. Maybe the tax flow from the counties is moving in the wrong direction given the burden of being anywhere close to a city out of control.

  4. ^^How in God's name do you know they went the budget route? You are not privy to anything and are just talking out of your own ass. You and people like you are what's really wrong with this city. Your fucking post makes zero sense. "Maybe the tax flow from the counties is moving in the wrong direction given the burden of being anywhere close to a city out of control." WTF does that even mean? I mean it's incomprehensible. Fucking idiot.

  5. KCPD stays losing.

  6. Surely, some good citizen will attend and express that KCPD's next Chief should be making KC great again. Like PREZ. DJT said this morning, proposing a ban on Trannies serving in the military, popos should be ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED, also. Freaky deeky swapped parts may do for Village People, Kooky Kartrashian Caitlyn, and Treasonous Chelsea, but let's not rewire DICKs & JANEs in BLUE!

  7. It seems that 8:46's comment is sensible. While few are privy to the financial details associated with each candidate, it's a reasonable assumption that they're going the "budget" route based upon the candidates we got. No logical person would believe that the chief of Norman, OK (a city the size of Independence) or an internal candidate (with no experience in the role of chief) were the best qualified candidates for a city the size of KCMO with the crime rate we have. If we're not getting the best, that leaves three options:

    - Budget (we cant afford anyone more qualified)

    - Politics (the city doesn't want someone better, they want someone controllable)

    - Reputation (no one better is willing to work for KCMO)
