KANSAS CITY PARTY DISTRICT END GAME: WILL THE NEW NIKE STORE SAVE THE COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA?!?!
Tonight a new upscale store offered a private party to power players and a small group of newsies who promised only to write nice stuff.
Better than that, we took a look inside the glorified shoe warehouse featuring the hard fought labor of Asian toddlers and weren't really that impressed.
After all . . .They're just selling sneakers.
Still, this kind of upscale re-branding is the latest, greatest hope of an entertainment district that STILL struggles with violent teen flash mobs, bar fights, roaches and the shrinking American middle-class.
Accordingly, we put the question to our blog community . . .
WILL THE NEW NIKE STORE SAVE THE PLAZA OR IS THIS THE END GAME FOR THE ICONIC KANSAS CITY ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT?!?!
It's a question that speaks to the fortunes of a great many local retailers and biz people who depend on the upscale branding to subsidize their standard of living and markup over much more convenient Internets delivery.
