More public surveillance is a way of life but locals have yet to put the data to much good use beyond some funny social media footage. Take a look:

Camera equipment donated by a community improvement group is helping Kansas City police solve crimes in their neighborhood. Officials with the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District said camera equipment donated to the police has helped get information on a suspected kidnapping in May, The Kansas City Star reports.
In fact they do stop crime. They help identify people who commit a crime, who then are caught, prosecuted and, if we're lucky, imprisoned. The crimes they stop are those which the imprisoned thug would have committed if he were free.
