Kansas City Checkpoints Kaput?!?!

Expect a last minute financing move but for now there's just a bit of hope that the nanny state is getting a bit weaker:

KC police will lose funding for sobriety checkpoints next month

Beginning next month the Kansas City Police Department and other Missouri law enforcement agencies will lose funding for sobriety checkpoints; $19 million in federal funds will shift away from checkpoints to saturation patrols.

  1. This is as it should be. The checkpoints were not really a tool to deter drunken driving as advertised, rather they were simply a revenue generator for the police departments that run them. The advent of social media made them irrelevant anyway. Unlawful stops and searches should never be normalized under the guise of "protection."

  2. Good news. Let us hope they will put effort into reducing the crime rate in KCMO.

  3. Here's an idea. Instead of setting up check points in Midtown aimed at making money off tipsy tax payers, they try gun check points on Prospect. Do black lives matter or not?

  4. Half the people in prison are from these DUI Checkpoints. Do you really think Grietens can build more prisons? 20,000 are set to be released but only 400 beds have been built for transition.
