Kansas City Authorities Celebrate Shot Spotter Spy Tech Double Down Despite Dubious Results And Increased Local Gunfire

Echos of urban core gunfire persist but this bit of public surveillance still enjoys support despite a definite lack of efficacy. You decide:

Large expansion could be coming to Kansas City's Shot Spotter program

A new expansion to a high-tech tool could help fight crime in Kansas City, Missouri. The Shot Spotter detects gunfire immediately - getting police to the scene quicker. And with a new grant - that coverage area could expand next year. It all depends on grant money from the Prospect Troost Max Bus Line expansion.

  1. How does this help? The po po already know where the high gunfire areas are so what is the real purpose, there's more to this than meets the eye

  2. You might have noticed that this latest waste of money depends on a federal grant for the Prospect/Troost MAX bus line extension.
So these toys will have to be installed along the bus line, whether or not that's the most effective place for them.
Just like the last installation of ShotSpotter.
Just a continuation of KCMO's insistence on doing EVERYTHING but actually addressing the small minority of destructive thugs who are responsible for the great majority of the killing and getting them off the streets.
    Spends lots of money.
Fund as many worthless ineffective and unaccountable nonprofits as show up at your door.
Have endless town hall, summit, and meetings meetings.
    Appoint another task force.
Bring in ideas from out-of-town professors.
Blame lack of local control of the KCPD and gun legislation from Jeff City.
ANYTHING but have the guts to identify and address the real issue.
    60 murders and it's only June 9th.

  4. SWAT teams on every corner or the urban core with a blank search warrant would be kinda' cool

  5. We need to identify every area in KC that needs a curfew ordinance. By God we will get a handle on crime if it takes forcing everyone to stay home locked in their house 24/7.
