Kansas City Arts Scene Earns Big Bucks

Maybe a bit of hype but also encouragement for the local creative class who have been offered a great deal of promises with little payoff in terms of jobs. Take a look at the ongoing effort to celebrate the bright side of a liberal arts degree:

Report: KC artists has spurred hundreds of millions for the region

It's no secret that art has an impact on the heart and soul. But in Kansas City, art also has a significant impact on the economy. The art industry added a total of $276 million to the metro's economy in 2015. The figure is a slight increase from the 2010 figure, according to a from Americans for the Arts.

  2. And they still expect every musician in town performing on a local level to accept $100 or less for a gig. Most will work for $50. Who is getting rich here?

  3. It's impossible to get musicians to organize and improve their condition as working class. The main reason is the weekend warrior who has a decent paying job, usually in finance and they can afford to play music for nothing and do not relate as working class in the first place. Consequently every band in town sounds plays a wedding song set. The upper tier musicians who live here don't bother playing here locally and only perform on the road. But every city has the scab weekend warrior and it's had a negative effect on art and culture.

  6. Our art scene is a joke. The shit here isn't art. Our artists are just an immature lazy bunch of assholes with illusions of grandeur who desire to be called artists.

  7. Our local artists are known by their depends persperation rather than by their insperation

  8. In a town that reports it has more tourists each year than the entire country of France, claims that thousands ride a 2-mile long streetcar every day, makes believe it's the arts and tech capital of the country, and falls over itself imagining that rehabbing a few abandoned buildings equates to a downtown "renaissance", claiming pretty much ANYTHING is possible.
Why not let people enjoy and appreciate whatever art they prefer and leave the hype, inflated claims, and "monetizing" of everything to the Visit KC gang?
They're the very well-paid "experts" at BS.

  9. Fuck Kansas City musicians. If they make fifty bucks a night that would be way over paid for most of them 'cause 95 percent of the KC musicians suck total ass and are stuck in the 70s.
