Recent terrorist attacks in Great Britain have shocked the world and elicited local signs of support but closer to home Kansas City residents are much more likely to be the victim of a home burglary, shooting or violent attack by so many crackheads wandering about than encounter ISIS attacks.
It's great to care about the global fight for freedom but the reality is that many denizens don't feel safe enough to leave their homes after dark.

The world and Al Gore are still going after Prez Trump for his controversial Paris pullout . . . That's great but closer to home there's a rising tide of taxes, fees and levies drowning local homeowners at a pace far quicker than the threats to the polar bears and penguins. Water rates are doubling every five years and gentrification is pushing many urban core denizens out of their homes. Meanwhile, so-called KCMO "progressives" quickly turn exceptionally conservative and big biz friendly when it comes to supplying tax breaks and corporate welfare in a manner that's cuts funds from schools, libraries and neighborhoods. The reality that local media always neglects is that supply-side economic incentive schemes have impacted and dominated both Kansas and KCMO local government.
Translation:
In terms of economic policy, Mayor Sly is really just Gov. Sam Brownback in a bow tie.

Arguments About Immigration Overlook Ongoing Kansas City Mexican Crackdown
Cruel reality is that Prez Trump's wall has more support than most progressives want to admit even thought it mostly exists in their imagination.
More to the point, despite local liberal hope to stand up for International human rights and Muslims during Ramadan . . . Local Mexicans continue to get rounded up and/or get a lot better at hiding and doing menial, clandestine, low-paying cash work that powers the local economy.
To be fair, we know a lot of Democratic Party insiders who realize the local immigration struggle happens at bus stops and not with a bullhorn at the airport leading a protest. Still, it's important to remember that immigration drama is part of every day life in Kansas City and not just a neat Anderson Cooper segment . . .
And so . . . The struggle against crime, higher taxes and the fight for social justice continues in local neighborhoods and not just by way of DNC talking points among the chattering class.
Moreover, this post is merely a reminder that Kansas City has far more pressing problems to "resist" that don't have much at all to do with beltway politics that dominate the discourse but seldom relate directly back to local life.

These self-appointed and already totally irrelevant "activists" are just taking a tip from Jackson County and KCMO electeds.
ReplyDeleteSeriously addressing issues like how a jail is managed, what can be done to reduce violence and homicides, implementing a plan to maintain streets and bridges, managing a vital utility like water or sewer services so that costs to residents can be kept at a reasonable level, and so many other local issues that are important to the people who actually live here takes lots of hard work, learning enough about complex issues to be able to develop policies and programs to improve results, and strong oversight, management, and accountability to get what you expected.
No bullhorns, selfies, or tv time.
No pie-in-the-sky promises.
No blaming someone else far away for your problems.
No ME! ME! ME!
The "activists" have no responsibilities for anything, so their lack of knowledge and proposals make no real difference.
The same can't be said for the folks at the Jackson County Courthouse and at city hall.
Lots of self-appointed celebrity wannabe ringmasters, but really poor acts in this local circus.
No amount of conversation concerning national issues, will distract the attention of locals, when it comes to safety.
