GM Keeps Cutting Fairfax Despite MILLIONS IN Local And Federal Corporate Welfare

Buying a Toyota is buying an American car . . . The myth of American-made autos is meaningless in a global economy and considering so much of the labor, parts and tech in American cars have been outsourced. Here's another example the money or tax breaks doesn't buy loyalty . . .

Hundreds of workers could lose their job as GM cuts 3rd shift at KCK's Fairfax Assembly Plant

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- General Motors announced Friday that it's eliminating the third shift of workers at the Fairfax Assembly Plant. The factory currently employs more than 2,800 people. GM inventory at new car dealers is 44 percent higher than at this time last year.

  1. I think this more speaks to the diminishing middle class. I'm fairly middle class but I couldn't even consider buying a new car, even a little one, with the costs of them. I can not fathom how people buy, say a suburban, which starts at $50k; that's more than the cost of my entire house.

In Larger Metro Areas Car,owner ship is down. The new fashion is buy a pre, owned vehicle Let the previous owner pay for the depreciation and save thousands If you buy a luxury car you save much more.I can't drive 55,And if you are going through a mid life crisis A pre, owned sports car.You can save tens of thousands for a rainy day.

90% of the parts are also made in MEXICO

rest of the truck is somewhat assembled in the US, kinda,,,,,

along with many components of KW , Pete, Freightliner, Cummins, and other heavy equipment

other components for other heavy equipment, made in CHINA !!!!!

  4. I make $18 bucks a hour and I can't afford a truck, no matter who makes it. They have out priced themselves. Plus no more middle class. Fuck them. When I don't work, I don't get paid. GM workers still make 85% of their regular pay.

  5. Lot's of contract workers who work for GM suppliers also don't get paid when the plant is idle or a shift is cut.

  7. The average car on the road is 11 years old. The middle class is being pinched too hard, we're not buying new cars and neither are millenials because they owe $70,000 in student loans. Big ticket items make the economy go round. This is a terrible sign. Our property values are going to go down too because millenials aren't in the housing market. Yeah I know the housing market is red hot right now but wait 20 years when millenials are still paying student loans off and not buying houses.

  9. Since 2010 my family has bought four new cars. Our needs are for midsize cars - not tiny, but certainly not full size SUV. We always check Ford, Chevy, then shop around. Our last car was a Subaru, about the same price as Ford and Chevy models. Far better reviews on consumer reports. Better warranty. After discounts, less than equivalent Ford or Chevy. Three prior cars same pattern except we bought Hyundai all three times. Thousands less. All with 100,000 engine and drive train warranty. One of them just turned over 200,000 miles and drives as smooth and quiet as when we first bought it.

Advice to Chevy - Make cars that people want and you will sell cars. You need to have more flexibility to change your manufacturing line to different models that are selling, whenever needed.

Don't change and you will find yourself with empty factories.

  10. My 2005 Malibu has 211,000 miles on it and still runs great. Other than putting new struts on it I've had to do nothing to it that isn't routine, like brakes. Great car.
