Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar Corporate Welfare Stays Winning?!?!

Newspaper biz section runs hype and ignores the death of local Democracy by way of TDD secret ballot and multi-step rigged election . . .

This TKC Reader Seyz: "Apartments, hotel, bars, tax subsidies, etc. This type of economic development would have happed without wasting all that money on a trolley. Where are the businesses moving in with the good jobs? Where the retail merchants that were are suppose to move into all those empty store fronts?

"Let’s get rid of the subsidies and start charging the tourist for their streetcar rides."

The very thing that is luring developers to downtown Kansas City - the new streetcar line on Main Street - also is presenting construction and architectural challenges. Unlike many building projects around the metro area, builders can't close off street curb lanes during construction.

  6. This is like double taxation. We are taxed to pay for the streetcar to bring developers in and then we give tax breaks to the developers when they arrive. This is crazy!

    Meanwhile, the northland and Joao are pouring money into subsidized costcos and convention hotels and strip malls. Odd...
