Kansas City Destroying Westport History

Quick look at how speculative development and low-rent chain retail biz continues to destroy most everything that's unique about Kansas City. Check this important bit of public meeting transcription:

Big Westport apartment complex gets backing from Kansas City Plan Commission

After nearly three hours of testimony Tuesday, the Kansas City Plan Commission approved rezoning and development plans for a large apartment building at the corner of Westport Road and Broadway. Three-fourths of the 22 people who testified spoke against the plan.

  1. I hope it is Section 8.

Westport needs more diversity. Diversity is one of our nation's strengths. Westport and The Plaza would do well to attract a more diverse clientele that will attract so many Progressives down into the areas that they have created all over the country.

I understand, that summers in Baltimore and Chicago are now the rage!

If our city leaders would only wake up and spend more time concentrating on bringing in, let's say, 20 or 30,000 Somalis to compliment the 5,000 we already brought in and place them, at tax payer expense, for the rest of their lives, their children's lives and their thousands and tens of thousands grandchildren's lives, on the public teat, in Westport and closer to the Plaza, then a vibrant and beautiful city would blossom forth.

Maybe Nancy Pelosi will visit soon to enjoy the diversity and results of what the Progressive Narrative has wrought.

  2. We sure wouldn't want people to live in the city and pay taxes and stuff! Oh, my! And a six story building on a prominent intersection in the middle of the city! Geez, that sounds just too darned big!!!

  4. That's how the free market works, you dipshit. They own it and want to build a building on it WITH NO INCENTIVES to make money.

  6. Well, they do fucking own the land. And the people who don't want it don't. And everyone under 45 in the neighborhood wants it. Plus the people that will live there. And the business owners who will benefit from having people live nearby, and the city, whose tax base will increase, allowing the core to keep subsidizing the sprawl in the northland and the depopulated sewers on the east side.

If you are scared of 6 story buildings, or cars driving on the mostly empty streets, maybe you should move out of the fucking city.
