TKC Fact Check Tragedy: Nobody Cares About Kansas City WWI Liberty Memorial History

One of my favorite things about Kansas City is that a legacy of old world failures and a huge anti-war monument overshadows all of Downtown. The so-called "war to end wars" remains one of the greatest disappointments in the history of Western Civilization and there are already plans to build more upbeat tributes in Washington D.C. . . . Meanwhile, Kansas City's monument to death, broken promises, disgusting politics and the legacy of the rich, royalty and the establishment exposing their ineptitude stands in the middle of the nation a century later. Mostly ignored.

  1. As muddled as the historical picture may be, it is clear that the role of the USA was honorable, brave, and heroic.

It couldn't have been otherwise; it was predestined.

  2. We should have stayed out of it. There would've been a truce in 1916 if we had not become involved. The hope that we would keep the British and the French and the fight. No Treaty of Versailles, no Adolf Hitler.

  3. We got into it because Germany was trying to get Mexico to invade us from the south
If it weren't for WW 1. There would still be European colonies and monarchs

  4. World war One is the great wear to crush the labor movement. 10,000 labor organizers were rounded up and arrested and then imprisoned in the Palmer raids. In Germany labor laders were shot in the streets. Even Karl Marx wanted nothing to do with the Lumpen Proletariat but the Lumpen invented Marxism. So one must view world war 1 , the great depression and world war 2 as one period of time like the 30 years war.

Succinct, pithy and dead on the fuckin money.

That said, my grandfather was gut shot and mustard gassed at Belleau Wood in WW1.

The Liberty Memorial is an astonishingly educational effort that succeeds on all levels in my opinion. The place is mesmerizing and every time I go, I see something new. It is a truly great Kansas City Attraction.

Mostly, it is a living tribute to the guys, like my granddad who fought in WW1.

  6. Is Trump coming here for this? Pershing Road between Broadway and Main is to be closed all day Thursday blocking access to Union Station parking lot, KC Ballet, IRS Building, etc. Usually the only reason they close a major street like this is to prepare for a Presidential visit.

  8. Personalized pavement bricks, offered to the public, was a nice touch.

  9. Personalized pavement brick$ were also offered to the public down at the city market.
Then, a few years later, they all got ripped out and discarded to make room for more parking.

    NOTHING lasts.

  10. America should create a memorial to the "Endless War" we are forced to fight all around the globe. It's sad to think that WW1 was supposed to be the end of world-wide conflict. Our fearless leaders keep us in constant battles because it's "good for business".

Thursday's centennial commemoration means the US entered the war 100 years ago on Thursday.

    Mr. Subtraction tells us that 2017 - 100 = 1917

Would someone please explain how the truce would have have happened the year before we entered, if we hadn't become involved the following year? This is some next level conspiracy alternative facts. Stay in school kids.

  13. WWI,II & III Memorial is a tribute to endless war. The Boss Tom saw this and created a shit hole of high maintenance infrastructure that would guarantee cost plus maintenance contracts just like the Toms Bosses get for every war since the 8 hour work day. JP Morgan is going to get that money back one way or another. There will be 3 1/2 percent economic growth until the last trust fund baby dies.
